Which NIT is preferable for girls: NIT, Surathkal, Warangal, or Allahabad?

DB
Ditsha Banerjee Posted On : September 14th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal

As a female student at NIT Surathkal, I can tell you about my experience at my own college.

I belong to North India, which is why the first few months were spent in homesickness. Your Bangalorean friends will grab every opportunity to visit their home every other weekend. You, on the other hand, would get to visit home once, during Dussehra for a week or so. But as time passes, the weather problem and homesickness will slowly subside. The campus organizes plenty of events all the time, so you won’t feel bored at all. Also, you’ll get to explore Mangalore and Manipal.

The girls’ mess food is pretty decent. Earlier, it’s difficult to adjust to hostel food, but you’ll adapt quickly. The girls’ mess serves dal and rice every afternoon and night. The dal is pretty decent. Even the dosas and idlis served during breakfast are pretty decent. Buttermilk is served every afternoon, and a cup of curd is served at night. Bread-jam-butter is available for breakfast. In the evening, snacks are served with tea/coffee/milk. The tea tastes pretty good.

Thrice a week, ice cream is served, and sweets are served once a week. Paneer is served twice a week. Veg Biryani is served in Sunday dinners. Each month, a grand dinner is organized with extra items on the menu like soup, salad, cornetto and sweets.

The hostel life at NIT Surathkal is pretty decent for girls. The hostel timings are lenient. First year girls need to be back by 8:30 pm. From 2nd year onwards, girls need to be back by 10 pm. NIT Surathkal also has a private beach of its own.

I don’t know about NIT Warangal or NIT Allahabad, but the college life of girl students is overall good at NIT Surathkal.

How good is IMI Delhi? With their high fees and much debated average salary package, is it worth joining?

SR
Sajeev Rajan Posted On : March 3rd, 2023
MMS Operations Management & Project Management, University of Mumbai (2012)

IMI Delhi offers plenty of opportunities in terms of learning and knowledge. With the extremely talented and experienced faculty combined with the terrific industry exposure, the high fees do not seem so high in reality. A student just does not learn at IMI New Delhi, he grows.

Consider only 65-70% of the average package to draw conclusions from it. This is because not all

Students contribute to the average package figure, but only the ones that got placed till the last placement date contribute to it.

The placement scenario at IMI New Delhi however, depends more on your competence than anything. It’s the ones who are genuinely passionate and have worked really hard that are able to face the placements. Before the placements, the committee makes sure to let you know that any failure in regard to placements will be a result of your own incompetence and not the institute’s inefficiency. So be prepared for such scenarios.

Like any other B School, there is a bias towards the Placement committee which gets placed right in the beginning. At IMI Delhi a student can sit for PI a maximum of 5 times but some are allowed to do so more than 7-8 times. There is a distinction between us and you will have to consider this factor.

Now make an informed decision by first determining what is more important for you; placements or academics. If it’s the former you are after then there is no certainty you will get a good package but for the latter, I can assure you, you will spend the best time learning the best things.

What are some of craziest stories that you have heard of NIT Jamshedpur?

TD
Tushar Dixit Posted On : April 20th, 2021
Studied at NIT Jamshedpur (2019)

Here are some of the craziest stories of NIT Jamshedpur.

  1. Prof. Akhilesh Kumar used to be the HOD of the ECE department. My friend went to his chamber for some work. He was tensed about something on his desktop and replied that he is unable to log in to his email ID as there is no option of password entering. The HOD didn’t know how to reload the page so my friend asked him if he could help. When he came near the PC, he saw that the HOD was trying to enter his email in the Google search field, not Gmail.
  2. Once there was a HOD of a department who didn’t come to class and on being asked he stated some lines of a saint that he can’t teach people who know more than him, thus making the students speechless. He although took a class in the last semester. He just took a piece of paper out of his pocket and started writing on the blackboard. He drew an incident ray getting reflected off the surface and the angle at which the ray was incident at the surface (not the perpendicular) was marked angle-i (and same for angle-r). Some students pointed out the mistake but he did not care and walked out of class with glory.

There many more such crazy stories about NIT Jamshedpur.

If SSN College of Engineering becomes an autonomous college under Anna University, the current students will be entitled to the following benefits:

  • Students will be free from the messed up revaluation criteria

  • They will have liberal attendance rules

  • Organised exam schedules

  • Internal marks

  • More focus on focus on extra-curricular, sports and club activities

  • Application oriented learning

  • Increase in popularity of the college among student communities

So becoming an autonomous institution will bring in a lot of benefits to its current students provided that the management conducts a thorough research on what measures need to be adopted to really raise the quality of education. SSN will change its ideology of being conventional to being practical.

How was your first day at NIT Srinagar?

NA
Noorie Aziz Posted On : September 20th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Srinagar (J&K) (Graduated 2020)

My brother shared his first-day experience at NIT Srinagar. He reached the campus at around 5 in the evening and was escorted to the DH-1 where the admission process was going on. He saw many other students in the hall and felt a sense of relief. He was informed that he wasnt late for the admission as the date had extended and he felt relief. He made a call home and updated them about the situation.

He then approached a security guard who told him to go to the Indus Hostel. He carried his heavy luggage all alone all the way to the 3rd floor. Most of the rooms were occupied by his batchmates. He then took a bath and got ready to explore. He interacted with a few seniors who came as friendly. It was hard to find a vacant room and when he did, he realized the fan wasnt working. Nevertheless, he lay down and fell fast asleep as he was extremely tired after the journey. Luckily, he made a few friends on the same day who asked him to share the room with them.

Overall, the first-day experience was a mix of all emotions, nervousness, and happiness and is a fresh memory to date.

Could anybody throw some light on the hostel facilities for M.Tech students in MNNIT Allahabad?

KS
Khushi Singh Posted On : April 26th, 2021
M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad (2019)

After the admission of students in M.Tech at MNNIT Allahabad, the institute allows Raman Hostel for the first-year students, which is situated near Optron Chowk, 600m away from Patel gate of the institute. The points below give a brief overview of the hostel and the facilities provided by the institute in it.

  • The Raman Hostel has 3 floors and 100 rooms in total. There are 2 washrooms on each floor, situated diagonally opposite to each other.
  • The students in M.Tech and Ph.D. get access to a TV hall and a reading room. The TV hall is situated on the 2nd floor and the reading room is situated on the 1st floor.
  • They have two badminton courts, one on each side. But, on most days, there are cycles parked on the courts. A small park is also made as a common entity for the students of both Raman and Tagore hostels.
  • Tagore hostel has a canteen in the outer part of the hostel, which is available to all. In the Raman hostel, there is a small shop to carry on with basic needs like pen, copy, groceries, cold drinks, files, mobile recharge, etc.
  • There is 24-hour access to the hostel for students. But, students need to sign a register if they have to go out after 12 AM midnight.
  • The rooms in Raman hostel are good enough for 3 students each, but 4 students are accommodated in every room in the first year. There are 4 beds, a table, and a chair for students in each room. Other than that, each room has two fans and two light sockets, and 3 sets of LAN ports and wardrobes.
  • In the second semester, few students leave the institute for a job or other purposes. So, three students are allotted to each room from then.
  • Each washroom in Raman hostel has 5 bathrooms and 6 latrines of both kinds. There are 4 front wash basins too. No washing machine is provided in the hostel.
  • Coming to the second year of M.Tech, students are allotted a PG hostel which is near the Computer Science department. It has 2-seater rooms, but the rooms are slightly more congested than those in Raman Hostel.

This is the overall condition and facilities provided to M.Tech students in MNNIT Allahabad, which is quite decent with required facilities for students inside the campus.
