I am interested in pursuing PGDBA offered by IIT KGP, IIM C, and ISI Kolkata. Have little to no programming experience. Should I pursue this career?

PGDBA Business Analytics & Data Science, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (2017)

My brother is doing his PGDBA from IIT KGP and he was rather afraid of programming and coding when he started the course. If you're stuck in the same situation, then my only advice is to enroll in the course with an open mind and a desire to learn to program if you don't already know-how.

Coding Experience: There is always a first time of everything. Now there are numerous MOOCs available online that can assist you in taking the initial step. The discipline of analytics (technical side) necessitates solid coding abilities, and therefore if you want to pursue a career in analytics, you should start learning the necessary skills now.

Work Experience: It is not necessary to have prior work experience to enroll in the course. However, relevant analytical experience aids in extracting greater value from the course.

According to your assessment of your interests, you have a preference for fields involving mathematics and statistics. Analytical science is an excellent fit in that regard. I would recommend that you go into MOOCs like Coursera, audacity, and your willingness to learn more about this field. You will obtain a better understanding of the field and would be able to decide if this is a good fit for you or not.

What is the CAT percentile cutoff in NITIE for reserved categories?

AC
Ankita Chaturvedi Posted On : August 18th, 2021
PGDIM from the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2021)

The college does not release cut-offs for the reserved categories. However, it can be predicted from the general cut-off.

The cut-off for the general category usually lies between 97 percentile- 98 percentile. So, the cut-off for OBC can be 90-92 percentile and for other categories, it can lie around 80.

Since you have not mentioned any particular course, here is the past trend for PGDIM and PGDISEM.

Program Category Overall Cut-off Sectional Cut-off
PGDIM OBC 87+ percentile 75+ percentile
PGDIM SC/ST 70+ percentile 56+ percentile
PGDISEM OBC 84+ percentile  68+ percentile
PGDISEM SC/ST 55+ percentile 49+ percentile

Note that these vary every year depending on the number of applications received.

Is it better to take a lower branch in NIT Rourkela or a good branch in CET, BBSR?

KS
Kalyan Sahu Posted On : August 14th, 2023
Lives in Bhubaneshwar

In my opinion, choosing a lower branch at NIT Rourkela is better than choosing a good branch at CET BBSR. Whenever choosing a college, always give preference to the institute over the branch. This is because choosing a bad institute can limit your experience no matter how good the branch is. The poor faculty, infrastructure, and opportunities will affect your academics, and the ‘good branch’ will not come to your rescue.

On the contrary, an average branch but a good institute will provide more scope in terms of exposure and academics. The right guidance from an experienced faculty will provide opportunities even in a low branch. Moreover, one can never be certain of the right branch for themselves as they have limited knowledge of the courses taught.

So, it's wise to choose a lower branch at NIT Rourkela than to go for a better branch at CET BBSR.

How are the placements for MPP in NLSIU?

RR
Rudra Roy Posted On : October 4th, 2021
Bachelor of Technology in Biotechnology,Karunya University (2016)

One of my friends recently graduated from NLSIU. Here is his insight on the placements at NLSIU.

  • There is no placement cell in the institute. Students get placed through a student-led body called RCC (recruitment coordination committee). An average of 30 percent of students get placed. Around 50 percent don’t have a proper job secured during graduation.
  • The institute has its reputation however the course and curriculum provided by the institute don’t prepare you for any corporate job. Getting into the top company is only possible if you are in the top 5 of a strength of 70 people in the class. You will have a chance of getting into the big four, i.e. EY, KPMG, Deloitte, etc. as policy professionals. But don’t expect to get into IGOs like the World Bank or UN.
  • According to the recent placement highlights at NLSIU, the L&L Partners made 12 placement offers. Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Trilega made 7 placement offers while Cyril Amarchand made 1 placement offer. Companies like ICICI Bank, Societe Generale, Khaitan, AZB & Partners made less than 5 offers each. In 2020, the highest CTC offered at NLSIU was 18 LPA.

The employment space for MPP professionals is opening up with time and if you have the required skills you will have decent opportunities along the line. But you will need to approach top companies through platforms such as LinkedIn.

SG
Sandip Ghose Posted On : May 17th, 2021
MBA student at Sharda University

One of my friends was confused while taking admission to Sharda University, after coming across bad comments. But, he stuck to his decision and took admission there, and now he is happy.

Here is his insight on the Sharda University based on his experience.

Academics:

  • Academics are excellent and better than most colleges in greater Noida, all because of the dedication, hard work, and supportive nature of the faculty of the college.
  • The staff is very much supportive and helpful. You can clear your doubts after the class in their respective cabins or you can even send them a mail regarding your query.

Activities:

  • CHORUS (annual techno-cultural fest) one of the largest cultural festivals of North India. It witnesses the participation of around 35,000 students from over 238 colleges and universities from all over the world.
  • Sharda University does not simply ensure the participation of the students but, also involves students in the management team to teach the real-time tasks to manage the events successfully.
  • Some other fests as well are - CONTRIVANCE- For computer science department; CONSTRUCTO- For civil department; MEDIAMELA- For BJMC

Placement:

  • Placement varies every year from student to student according to profile and individual performance.
  • The highest package of the year 2020 is INR 65 lacs per annum with a high placement rate of above 80%.
  • More than 350 recruiters took part in the placement process.

So, great to study at Sharda University in terms of academics, activities, and placements.

How are the placements for an MTech in aerospace engineering from IIT Bombay? What is the scope of an aerospace engineer?

AT
Adwait Tejas Posted On : March 20th, 2023
studied Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2021)

The demand for Aerospace Engineering is gradually increasing and is recognized today by most universities and companies in and outside India.

The job prospects after completing M.Tech are as follows

  • Research work in India: If you are good at M.Tech, you can go for Ph.D. and then you can join any research center or teach in any reputed engineering college.
  • Ph.D. from Abroad: Most students choose this option as they get recommendations from professors and are of great worth abroad. Moreover, with a good academic profile with decent research achievements, you can get a scholarship to top-ranked universities.
  • Teaching within India: Once you have completed M.Tech. you can even join any college as an Assistant Professor.
  • Work in India: Many design and analysis companies offer decent jobs that can be secured through LinkedIn.
  • Entrepreneurship: In this age of startups even the Government is supporting entrepreneurship. So you can take this risk also.

Don’t fear taking a big step as only risks can lead to ultimate success.

How is the hostel at Ravenshaw University?

PS
Palki Saha Posted On : October 13th, 2021
M.Sc Statistics, Ravenshaw University, Cuttack (2020)

In Ravenshaw University there are a total of 13 hostels. There are 6 hostels named East, New PG, New Dhammapada, Lalitgiri, Jagannath Chhatrabasa for the boys, and 7 hostels named Bhargabi, Debi, Daya, Kathajodi, Mahanadi, Parija, Wes for the girls.

  • All the basic facilities such as electricity, security guard, newspaper and computer facilities are available for the students and there is also 24 hours supply of purified drinking water.
  • There are lunch and dinner facilities available for both boys and girls but the food served at Bhargabi hostel is not very good and tasty. Parija is a very good hostel where the food served is tasty and healthy and it is also very good to concentrate on your studies as there are only two students allotted in a single room.
  • But students prefer to stay in Kathajodi because it is a newly built hostel with very good infrastructure and is also well maintained.
  • The security provided in these hostels is decent and the staff working in these hostels are very helpful and caring towards the students.
  • The students of the hostels can also take part in elections and various cultural activities and programs held at these hostels.

So, there are many hostels available for both boys and girls and all the basic facilities are being provided at these hostels so that the students can study peacefully.
