PS
Pawan Sharma Posted On : November 18th, 2022
BSc from Banaras Hindu University (Graduated 2018)

My friend had a fairly good experience at BHU. She had switched her stream to Arts from BTech so she did not expect much. However, as time passed she realized her decision was worthwhile

Some common pros and cons she experienced at BHU are:

Pros-

  • Improved in academics

  • She was able to crack ALP technician CBT-1 because of excess free time

  • Started pursuing her photography skills

  • Travelled with her savings as fees were very less

  • Started writing poetries

  • worked on two projects & developed my own website

Cons-

  • Became a victim of society's taunts that I could not pursue BTech so opted for Arts.

My friend’s experience signifies how life at BHU can change you and your dreams easily.

What are the packages offered at NIT Trichy branch-wise in an MTech ME?

DP
Devesh Pattanaik Posted On : August 31st, 2021
M.Tech in Industrial Engineering and Management from NIT Trichy (2020)

The packages offered to the students of NIT Trichy who are pursuing M.Tech ME according to what branches they are in are as follows:

  • Thermal Power Engineering: The package can be from INR 7 LPA to as high as INR 16 LPA. Some packages may range from INR 10 to 11 LPA as well.
  • Non-Destructive Testing: You can expect certain placement with packages in the range of INR 3 to 6 LPA. Students in this branch are eligible for most other companies if they have completed B.Tech in mechanical.
  • Energy Engineering: An average placement of INR 7 LPA. Like NDT, you may try your luck in other companies too where B.Tech is required.
  • Safety Engineering: You may be offered an average package of INR 6 LPA. The same can be said about the students who are in the Industrial Metallurgy branch.
  • Welding Engineering: This branch promises certain placement and ranges from INR 4 to 7 LPA.
  • Manufacturing Technology: 80% placement is guaranteed by this branch with packages of around INR 6-7 LPA offered to the students.
  • IEM: The average package will be around INR 7-8 LPA with an 80% guarantee. Recent placements from this branch have not been good lately and if you are from a mechanical background purely then you will most probably not be preferred but companies dealing in analytics and management may have use for your skills.

Finally, most of the students in the civil branch are not seen in high regard for me. The placement percentage is from 50 to 70, unfortunately.

Is Hamirpur a very cold place? Should I take climate into account before joining NIT Hamirpur or IIIT Una?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 13th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

No, NIT Hamirpur is not a very cold place. Its surrounding area of snow-clad mighty Dhauladhars might give the impression that it's extremely cold here but in reality, there isn't any snowfall. This is because the campus is situated approximately 4km from the main town and is at a higher elevation.

The climate here is very pleasant and the vegetation is also impressive. Even during the hottest days, the temperature does not go beyond 27°C). During winters, the temperature ranges between 16-18°C, and it is mostly sunny outside. However, if you are from the Northern area of India, you might find the winters in even semesters (January) very cold. Winter is followed by spring, one of the best times of the year. Most of the summer days are spent on holidays so that isn't a big problem.

Overall, the winter season at NIT Hamirpur does not ring in extreme weather conditions and the cold climate is usually bearable. You can pack accordingly after considering the weather conditions throughout the year.

Which one should I choose, IISc Bangalore or IIT Madras?

AS
Aditi Sengupta Posted On : March 28th, 2023
Studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

There are two aspects of an engineering degree; a corporate and a research-oriented outlook. If you are someone who wants to enter the corporate world, IIT Madras has much better opportunities. There are a number of companies that come with decent roles. The campus life at IIT Madras with personality development through activities and fests is much more suitable for those aiming for corporate life.

However, if you are targeting the research area, no institute has better facilities than IISc Bangalore. Many IITians apply every year for a summer internship at IISc. the quality of projects you will be working on combined with the top-notch faculty guidance offers a smooth pathway for higher studies at top foreign universities.

However, if you aren't sure of your area of interest yet, choose IIT Madras as it excels in both corporate lives as well as research facilities. Thus you will have many options to choose from.
