Where should I go, IISER or NISER for physics?

SG
Saikat Ganguly Posted On : January 14th, 2022
M.S Chemistry, National Institute of Science Education and Research

It is difficult to choose when the comparison is question is NISER vs IISER. Choosing one institute over another will not matter much if you stay dedicated to your studies after taking admission. NISER and IISERs offer decent academics and facilities for fundamental sciences. NISER has a great Physics department. If you are choosing an IISER, make sure it is an old one.

RV
Rohan Verma Posted On : February 3rd, 2024
Studied at AMU

As your senior at AMU, here are some important tips from my side-

  1. Make clear goals and targets for yourself, and work hard to achieve them.
  2. Listen to the opinions of others, but do what feels right to you.
  3. Join clubs and societies while at AMU, and develop useful hobbies and skills.
  4. Do not let other people decide for you.
  5. Explore the world outside of AMU as well.
  6. Don’t spend your entire life on the AMU campus. Choose some other college/university (preferably in some other city or state) for your higher studies. This will give you lots of exposure.
  7. Set your boundaries and be vocal about them.
  8. Make friends.
  9. Commit mistakes, learn from them, and move on.
  10. Plan trips and travel as much as possible.

This is the best time to become self-sufficient and independent. Make the most of your stay at this university, and be sure to use your time wisely.

Which is better for CSE, IIT Bombay or IIT Kharagpur?

AG
Anushka Gandhi Posted On : March 20th, 2023
B.Tech(H) IIT Kgp

The quality of Education, the faculty pool, and even the lab facilities offered at both IITs are similar. There might be slight differences as far as internships are concerned because the top companies with coding profiles visit both IITs but the interview process is quite different.

The main reason for this difference is the location of both institutes. In the case of IIT Kharagpur, recruiters prefer taking a skype interview than personally visiting the campus because of the isolated location of the institute. This plays against the favor of IIT Kharagpur as face-to-face interviews are way better than online interviews. Online interviews do not convey the information and expressions rightly and there is a communication gap.

Companies tend to judge IITs based on rankings which depend on their respective placements. For instance, the same profile and role are offered with a higher package at IIT Kharagpur but with a lower package at other IITs.

While IIT KGP CSE has a wide scope if you have achieved a top JEE Rank and have managed to get into IIT Bombay, go for it.

Which is better, NIT Kurukshetra or NIT Hamirpur?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 1st, 2023
lives in New Delhi

I have a few friends in both institutes and from what I heard from them, NIT Kurukshetra is much better than NIT Hamirpur. Here are some obvious reasons for the same

  • Placements: NIT Kurukshetra's placement scenario is better than NIT Hamirpur's. Last year, its average package and highest package stood at INR 13.89 LPA and INR 1.25 CPA respectively while NIT Hamirpur's average package and highest package in 2023 stood at INR 12.83 LPA and INR 52 LPA respectively.
  • Alumni : NIT Kurukshetra has a better and stronger alumni network than NIT Hamirpur. Some of the noticeable alumni that hold high positions are R. K. Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, WAPCOS, Rajeev Kapoor, CEO, of Fiat India Automobile Private, and P. K. Munjal, MD, Hero Honda.
  • Location: NIT Kurukshetra has more location advantages as it’s near both Chandigarh as well as Delhi. Students thereby have access to coaching institutes where they can prepare for competitive exams.
  • Faculty: The faculty pool is more or less the same in both institutes.
  • Rankings: NIT Hamirpur is ranked 23 for B.Arch and 99 for Engineering by the NIRF 2021 rankings while NIT Kurukshetra B.Tech ranking by NIRF is 58 out of 200 colleges in 2023 and it was 50 out of 300 colleges in 2022
  • City: NIT Hamirpur is a far more beautiful city than Kurukshe and also has more places to explore than Kurukshetra.
  • Infrastructure : Both buildings have been designed beautifully and have beautiful campuses. NIT Hamirpur has slightly better infrastructure than NIT Kurukshetra.
  • Food: NIT Hamirpur has more options for non-veg than NIT Kurukshetra where mainly veg cuisine is served.

Based on the above points, you can decide which ones are the best for you!

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur: What is it like to be a student at IIITDMJ?

PK
Paulami Kar Posted On : March 25th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur (2019)

One of my school friends passed out from IIITDMJ last year. He has described his wonderful experience through a timeline, which is depicted below.

Year 2016-17

  • This was the most unforgettable year of his 4-year journey. Although they were excited to join the college there was fear of being ragged by seniors. However interaction with the seniors turned out to be fun and helpful later.
  • As the first semester started, the fear of Lamba sir (Mathematics for Continuous Domain) was engulfing the whole batch. But they didn’t stop enjoying every moment and some of them posed themselves as seniors and started to rag their own batch-mates on phones.
  • Also, he still remembers the day when India won the world cup and they piled up all the chairs inside the mess.

Year 2017-18

  • This year their hostel was shifted to TFRI campus. Counter-strike fever gripped almost the entire batch. Every Friday night the whole mess used to be hijacked for this purpose after dinner.
  • Every morning they used to rush to catch the college buses from TFRI to GEC.
  • Sharing a small hostel room (1 bathroom) with 2 other guys became difficult. This year was not that fun because all of them were exhausted with this hectic schedule

Year 2018-19

  • They were shifted back to their own campus, happy and mesmerized by the beauty of surrounding flora and fauna. However, they faced problems with water, electricity and other basic necessities.
  • The sixth semester was special because they were going to host Tarang'18. Through their combined hard work, they were able to put up a grand show with Jal performing at their campus, the first time in Central India.

Year 2019-20

  • As the Final Year approached, they all were worried about placements and so was my friend, as CSE representative. His days used to pass by getting contact numbers of Company HR, talking to them.
  • By the end of December all CSE was placed (majority in Infosys). Early morning cricket matches started and my friend along with many other CSE guys started to bunk Machine Learning classes taken by Manish Sir.

After having so much fun, finally, the day arrived when they started to pack their bags and start a new journey. They gave a farewell to themselves.

It all depends on how you socialize with people and make the best out of every moment of your journey.

What is your experience of doing MBA at LIBA Loyola College in Chennai?

VA
Vishakha Advani Posted On : September 29th, 2021
Studied at Loyola Institute of Business Administration (2016)

One of my cousins graduated from Loyola. His experience at Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) is quite good. First of all, I will have to answer based on my current interactions with the faculty and some of the students.

  • My friend has been fairly active concerning the alumni meetings and has met most of the professors and quite a few students.
  • There is one marked difference between the time my friend studied there and now, that is the significant improvement in the facilities.
  • There is a proper hostel, the entire campus is wi-fi enabled and the auditorium and other facilities are pretty much as good as it gets.
  • The classes are like any other college.
  • There is a mix of full-time and guest faculty; they also do not follow any particular schedule when it comes to guest speakers.
  • Try not to compare it to an IIM. Though the standards are definitely above average and better.
  • There is still a vibe of a laid-back environment here when comparing them to a B school like XLRI.
Categories MBA at LIBA
Course Fee 1.68 lakh
Highest CTC 20 LPA
Average CTC 10-12 PA
Recruiting Companies CTS, Tech Mahindra, Byju’s, Accenture, etc.

Apart from software companies picking up people for their consulting teams - Cognizant, etc. The industry presence in Chennai is not the same as in Mumbai. Overall, it could be one of the good options among other average-performing colleges.

Can I get into IIM Kozhikode with 99.5 percentile and 7.33 CGPA?

AL
Amit Lad Posted On : November 11th, 2022
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode

Your percentile is not the only deciding factor for IIM Kozhikode admissions. I have seen instances where people with 99.78 percentile couldn’t make it while people with lower percentile and CGPA made it into IIM Kozhikode.

This is because IIM Kozhikode prefers a balanced score in each section and a good overall score. It even considers your 10 and 12 marks. They also pick students from versatile backgrounds.

Low CGPA is not an issue for admission into IIM Kozhikode. Your overall score should be appealing enough to get you in.

Why some of the IITs such as IIT-M IIT-B are still called as IIT Madras & Bombay even though the cities have been changed to Chennai and Mumbai?

V
Vanshika Posted On : July 1st, 2024
student at IIT Madras

IIT Bombay and IIT Madras were established in 1958 and 1959 respectively. Both these institutions have emerged as highly renowned centers of Engineering studies in India. Both IIT Bombay and IIT Madras are more than an institution, they are in fact a brand with a high relevance and strong network in the industry.

The ‘Bombay’ or ‘Madras’ is a part of this brand name. This is not the address of these institutions, as both these cities have long been renamed as Mumbai and Chennai respectively. The institution name has not been altered because of the prestige and legacy carried by both these titles.

Thus, IIT Bombay and IIT Madras haven’t been renamed over the years.
