What is it like being a doctor in CMC, Vellore?

RG
Raguram Ganesamoni Posted On : May 3rd, 2024
Lives in New Delhi

I am a doctor at CMC Vellore, and I have been practicing in CMC for 5 years. Certain factors make CMC Vellore an ideal place to get your medical training from.

CMC Vellore logo

Here are some advantages of working as a doctor at CMC-

  1. The CMC Vellore staff is highly disciplined (right from the cleaning staff to the director of the institute).
  2. CMC follows World class treatment protocols that are updated regularly. The CMC faculty regularly visits foreign medical institutes, and foreign faculty is frequently invited to CMC.
  3. The professors make sure to teach moral values to their students. Official discussions on moral and ethical values are held each week.
  4. There is excellent cooperation among doctors of different departments, and one gets round the clock support from each and every doctor (even if they are not on duty).
  5. At CMC, all the patient reports can be accessed from any corner of the hospital. This saves a lot of the doctors’ time.
  6. Most of the doctors at CMC consider it their duty to look after each and every patient. The doctors work without ego, and carry a humble attitude.

Other than the advantages of working at CMC Vellore, here are some disadvantages of this institution-

  1. The huge workload can get extremely exhausting at times.
  2. Personal life suffers, and there’s no clear boundary line between personal and working hours.
  3. Academic discussions are limited during routine work. Most departments do not encourage questions on how a particular treatment evolved, and the possible future developments.
  4. Some departments are too overburdened to produce research work. Because of this, the amount of research publications is low in comparison to the high medical knowledge and patient load

Having said that, I wouldn’t deny that CMC still produces a phenomenal amount of quality research material.

  1. The waiting list is very long, especially for patients with cancer.

This is my experience of working as a doctor at CMC Vellore. Overall, I would say that CMC has offered me a rich and vast exposure in the field of medicine.

Which is a better option between IIIT, Bhubaneswar and VSSUT, Burla?

KS
Kalyan Sahu Posted On : October 11th, 2023
Lives in Bhubaneshwar

IIIT Bhubaneshwar is the right choice if you want to study Computer Science. Being a unitary university, the course structure will be designed by the college itself and will be at par with most top colleges in India.

Here are a few highlights pertaining to the college

  • Faculty: IIIT Bhubaneswar has a highly qualified and dedicated faculty pool for branches like CSE, IT, ETC, and EEE. Most professors are Ph.D. holders and hail from reputed institutes of the country. These professors encourage and are themselves involved in cutting-edge research.
  • Crowd: You will find many like-minded people here as IIIT Bhubaneswar welcomes a diverse crowd.
  • Infrastructure: VSSUT infrastructure has been improved and now students have access to Wi-Fi. The lab facilities are also being improved and the library is stocked with the latest reading material. The library has a lot of digital content on every topic. Special ports and extracurricular infrastructure are getting better day by day.
  • Culture: Sadly, VSSUT still hasn’t managed to develop its culture because it's new. Its alumni network is also not strong. However, it has an active club culture offering a lot of scope for self-development.
  • Placements: VSSUT has been recording decent placement records with top recruiters like TCS, Infosys, Deloitte, Tata Steel, Vedanta, etc. The average CTC offered to students is around Rs.6.05 LPA while the highest CTC offered is around Rs. 17.34 LPA.

Ultimately, college can only be a stepping stone and it’s you who has to carve the way to success.

How can I prepare for the UGEE at IIIT Hyderabad in 10 days?

GM
Gaurav Mishra Posted On : July 31st, 2023
studied at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad

IIIT Hyderabad UGEE is nothing like JEE Mains as it is highly predictable and you can never guess the weightage a certain topic will have even after going through the previous year's paper. The syllabus is also not fixed so it might be difficult to procure the right study material.

One of my friends was in a similar situation and one week before the exam he decided to browse YouTube to find something to study. He came across IIT prep which had extensive study materials, previous year papers, a detailed paper analysis, and a syllabus. This platform has amazing content and that too free. You can even find PDFs and Books that you can download and read thereby increasing your chance of clearing the first round.

So the best way to crack IIIT Hyderabad UGEE Exam is to go through IIIT Prep.

Is there AC in IIT Hyderabad hostel?

SY
Seema Yadav Posted On : May 9th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad

No, there aren’t ACs in IIT Hyderabad. Instead, there is a Radiant Cooling system that is equally good. In this cooling system, the walls and ceiling of the hostels have hidden pipes that have cold water running through them. The temperature of the water is controlled depending on the season and outside temperature. This system keeps the hostel rooms warm in winter and cool in summer.

To ensure judicious usage of water, recycled water from the rest of the campus is used in the radiant cooling systems. IIT Hyderabad takes water conversation very seriously and implements steps for the same.

Will I get a good placement with 70% in 10th, 70% in 12th, 63% in graduation, and an MBA from FMS Delhi?

AR
Arun Rajagopal Posted On : December 29th, 2022
Studied at Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi

If you are concerned about your past academic records then rest assured for the final placements don’t usually pay much attention to past academic records.

MBA is much more than just learning and writing your answers and scoring good marks. It is more about applying logic and increasing your decision-making skills. So to compensate for your poor past academic performance, become a part of the managerial committee and improve your resume. Enhancing your decision-making and managerial skills will increase your chances of getting a good placement than your academic background.

Also, FMS in itself is a brand name that will fetch you a good package.

What was your profile for the IIM Udaipur interview?

PM
Pramod Marapalli Posted On : January 17th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Raipur

My sister recently graduated from IIM Udaipur. Her interview at IIM Udaipur was one to remember. Her profile looked like this

Class 10th marks: 93%

Class 12th marks: 82%

Graduation: BSc Agriculture 81%

CAT: 95 percentile

Internships: 20 weeks of Rural Agricultural Work experience, 2 modules of Experiential Learning Programme-Food processing & Mushroom Cultivation

Hobbies: Reading and Painting

Shortcomings: One major shortcoming in her profile was the one year gap she took post 12th to prepare for her Medical Entrance Exam.

Some points of inference from her profile are

  • Your past academics matter but not more than your CAT percentile
  • You can get admission despite being a fresher
  • You need to be confident while delivering your answers
  • In case of a gap, you should have a convincing answer to it
  • Gain maximum exposure through internships

So even someone with an average profile can get a converted call!

Are there any reservations in the NMIMS?

RB
Rohan Bose Posted On : May 25th, 2021
studied MBA in Marketing at SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

NMIMS is a private university founded by the Gujaratis and so, in the initial days, it remained with a greater portion of reservation (50%) for Gujarati’s. But, later on, this reservation comes to an end & now it follows only 2 reservation stated as follows:

  1. Reservation for female candidates (30%)
  2. Minor part of a reservation for widows/ wards of armed forces personnel killed/disabled in war/action or for Kashmiri migrants

Being a private university NMIMS has not had reservations based on caste; financial background; or management quota.

This does not mean that NMIMS would not comply with any kind of reservation in the future. It is a private university run by a trust and all the decisions would be taken by the members of the trust to further the university brand value.
