I got AIIMS Raipur in the 2nd round of counseling. Should I leave Seth GS for that?
Whether you should leave Seth GS for AIIMS or not can be understood only after going through a general comparison between the two:
Academics: The academics of both colleges are somewhat similar.
Lifestyle: KEM is located in Mumbai so you will have to go through the metro lifestyle which includes pollution, crowd, and an unhygienic lifestyle.
Hostel: Hostel facilities are much better in AIIMS than in KEM. Also, KEM does not provide hostel facilities to 1st-year students. The hostels in KEM are very crowded.
Crowd: KEM has a larger batch and there might be crowding.
The final decision is yours.
Should I choose AFMC over AIIMS Raipur or any new AIIMS?
Every AIIMS is good and not much comparable. But if you compare it to AFMC, there are some things you need to know.
Firstly AFMC has a bond of 1 cr rupees if you want to quit after MBBS. But the infrastructure of AFMC Isi is exceptionally good. It just does not provide you the basic medical facilities but trains you in shooting, swimming, working in challenging conditions, daily PT, etc. All this will prepare you for a tough future.
The best part of AIIMS on the other hand is no bond is required to be signed. AIIMS focuses on medical facilities only. The classrooms are well-designed. The library, playground, gym, and other facilities add to the overall infrastructure of the college.
I will recommend that you go for AIIMS if you are willing to pursue PG right after MBBS. AFMC on the other hand lets you pursue PG only after serving for a fixed period of time. But don’t worry, the internship offers a good amount of money.
What are the best courses to take in IIM Calcutta?
My brother is in IIM Calcutta and over the period of 2 years he has studied many valuable courses. But 3 of them top the list of his favorites.

Statistics for Management: Taught by Prof. Rahul Mukerjee, this course is a mandatory Term-I course. More than the subject itself it’s the professor that makes it an amazing experience. He is the recipient of many national awards and has taught all over the world at reputed universities like Harvard.

Options, Futures and Derivatives: IIM Calcutta is without a doubt the finance campus of India. The finance faculty is the best you can get and this course does justice to finance completely. It’s quite a tough subject based on derivatives and technical finance. But for a true finance lover, it’s the best. It is taught by Prof. Binay Bhushan Chakrabarti (BBC) who was the Gold Medalist of the Batch of 1980 from IIM Calcutta.

Management of Self: Another eye-catching course at IIM Calcutta is Management of Self taught by Prof. Leena Chatterjee. She is a motherly figure in college. This is the only course here that teaches you about nothing but your own self. It’s a sort of personality grooming course that requires you to take a few personality tests and write an autobiography. This course helps you get more familiar with yourself and overcome internal struggles. It’s a Term-V elective course.
Although all courses offered at IIM Calcutta have their own benefits, these 3 are among the best maybe because of the respective professors.
Will it be an absolutely horrible decision to choose IIM Kashipur over NMIMS Mumbai just for the IIM tag?
Rather than judging your decision, I will list down some merits of both colleges and leave the rest for you to choose from.
Reasons why one should choose IIM Kashipur over NMIMS:
- Smaller Batch-size: IIM Kashipur has a relatively smaller batch size than NMIMS. This means the placement opportunities will be better and attention given to each student will be more.
- Lower fees: Mumbai fees are around 21 lakhs for two years. Also, it does not include the accommodation and food expenses that a person will have in the two years. The minimum expenses in a city like Mumbai will stand at 20000. The total fee is much higher than IIM Kashipur ( INR 1730000).
- Specializes in Operations: The leading domain of IIM Kashipur is operations whereas NMIMS has limited scope for the same.
Reasons why one should join NMIMS:
- Better opportunities in terms of companies, packages, and roles than any other new IIM
- Better location than the new IIMs
- Strong alumni base
So if you are confident that you can remain among the top 200 go for NMIMS, else IIM Kashipur it is.
After recent revelations regarding IIM Calcutta placements, is it wiser to choose IIM A/B/ L, XLRI or FMS over IIM Calcutta?
Every institute has its own shortcomings. If you choose IIM A/B/L or XLRI or FMS over IIM Calcutta, do you think you will not face any problems there? It’s just that their flaws haven’t been exposed yet. The fact that someone had the courage to come up and challenge IIM Calcutta is enough to prove its worth. The revelations were made by an IIM Calcutta student itself. This also proves the confidence level and leadership skills of these students are remarkable.
Besides, IIM Calcutta is among the best for a reason. Some casual claims cannot rain its reputation.
How do I write career goal column while filling FMS Delhi application form?
You can fill the career goa column with points like these
- why are you better than the rest
- why did you choose FMS
- How is MBA related to achieving your goals
The first question can be answered by mentioning your strengths and weaknesses and how you have qualities and skills that others lack. You can speak about the goal-oriented mindset that has brought you to the interview room.
The answer to the next question can be written after talking to an alumnus of FMS. You can mention things like ROI or the low fees factor, the excellent faculty, and the accreditation with Delhi University. All these reasons made it almost impossible for you to not choose FMS.
The answer to the last question is a bit tricky as one necessarily does not have goals while pursuing MBA. Most people do it because many intellectuals are also doing so. And trust me this is not wrong. All you need is to trust the process and their intellect. One smart way to answer this question is to establish a past belief in how you have known it all along and how you made it. You can write your ultimate goal and also how this is just the starting point.
Some points to consider while writing these answers are
- Write the answers such that it reflects your true self
- Proofread the answers for connotations, interpretations and grammatical errors
Just know that this form is not the basis for shortlisting just a basis for the questions that will be asked to you.
What are the cons and pros of doing an undergraduate degree from IGNOU?
In education, the university does not matter more than your performance and marks. You might have graduated from IIT but your scores might be average. Similarly, you might have graduated from IGNOU and scored much more marks. Your degree from IGNOU can never be a negative aspect in your resume.

You can continue to prepare for further exams alongside doing BA from IGNOU. There are several examples where people cracked UPSC at the age of 22 with just a degree from IGNOU without any coaching. One such example is Keshavendra Kumar IAS from Bihar. So yes, it’s a tough but probable choice you need to make.
Is it worth joining IIM Nagpur or should I wait a year?
Joining IIM Nagpur is a decision worth taking. It has a good reputation, especially among the new IIMs. One of my cousins with a work experience of 3 years, joined IIM Nagpur and is glad he took the decision. He considered the following parameters to take this decision
- Placements: The institute enjoys a 100% placement percentage The highest CTC shot up by 72.56% to INR 55.22 LPA whereas the average CTC increased by 20.50% which stood at INR 23.10 LPA. In addition, the average CTC for the top 50% batch climbed by 16.08% to INR 26.95 LPA.
- Crowd: The institute welcomes a mixed crowd with a variety of academic, geographical, and work experience profiles. The individuals here are serious about their MBA who want to leave an impact in the corporate world.
- Courses: IIM Nagpur provides both Foundation courses in the first year and a blend of your choice of electives in the second year. This enables you to specialize in more than one domain thereby broadening your career opportunities
- Faculty: The faculty is well known for their industry experience themselves are IIM alumni.
- Culture: IIM Nagpur has a dynamic culture owing to its clubs and activities. There are both academic and non-academic clubs that make learning fun and practical. Various corporate-level competitions are won by these students. The sports culture is also very dominant here with the non-academic clubs managing the mess, the infrastructure, and the events.
So yes IIM Nagpur is worth risking your career for.
Can I do a second MBA from ISB after around 2 years of work experience and my first MBA from a Tier II institute?
There is literally nothing that is stopping you from doing a double MBA. Many students are not satisfied with the brand value or outcome of their first MBA degree and might opt for a double MBA from a better B School with clearer goals.
But if you are doing so, make sure you have a credible story up your sleeve to explain why you need a second MBA.
- They might ask what you learned from your former MBA
- Why you need a second MBA
- Are you doing the second MBA merely for the ISB tag
Prepare such questions well and ponder on the real reason why you are found for another MBA. Rather than a hasty decision, you can also wait for a few years and see if a second MBA is really necessary.

The aspects of judging a college’s worth depend on the following factors
- legacy
- alumni experience
- perception among peers
- quality of students
- faculty
- institute culture
- events and activities
- pedagogy
- Summer and final placement opportunities
NMIMS renders you short-term advantages but IIMs offer many long term advantages. Even the faculty is better at IIMs than at NMIMS. But being a new institute, it lacks an alumni base. Any far-sighted person can definitely say that your IIM tag will help you in the long run.
Now based on your list, the order is
IIM Udaipur>IIM Ranchi>IIM Trichy>IIM Rohtak> IIM Raipur>IIM Kashipur
