Is Mizoram University a good option for a B.Tech?

HP
Hiten Patel Posted On : January 20th, 2022
B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mizoram University (2018)

One of my friends studied at Mizoram University (MZU). According to him, it is not a good choice to opt for MZU to pursue engineering.

Here are some reasons why:

  • The infrastructure is not at par with other Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs).
  • Students are not allowed to use the multimedia lab, also they lack updated technologies.
  • The curriculum is obsolete and does not match with the latest industrial requirements.
  • The content that is taught here will not extend your skill set or make you more employable.
  • In the final year, every student is required to undergo Industrial Training for a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of 45 days. There is no scope for any internships.
  • The faculty members are not competent and lack fundamental knowledge of their respective subjects.
  • The hostels often face insufficient electricity and water supply.
  • The mess food is not at all hygienic. Students have complained to authorities about these issues but they pay no attention to them.
  • The wifi connection is also unstable.
  • Placements are not up to the mark. Getting placed in service-oriented companies like Wipro, TCS, etc. is seen as an accomplishment.

Therefore, it is suggested that you do not opt for MZU to study engineering, because it will not be worthwhile. As you will learn less and even fall out of job opportunities.

Is there is equal value in doing an MTECH from IIT Bombay in comparison to doing a BTECH from IIT Bombay?

AT
Adwait Tejas Posted On : March 18th, 2023
studied Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2021)

As an IITB undergraduate, you may observe that some UGs do not respect M.Techs from IIT Bombay. However, this is not a fair judgment as M.Techs work hard on their projects, have great practical knowledge of their stream, and know their stuff. While clearing JEE is a parameter to gauge one's intelligence, it does not solely determine one's worth or capability.

Interestingly, the placement survey of the past 2 years reveals that M.Techs give tough competition to UGs during placements and get placed in core jobs with good packages. In fact, in some cases, fewer UGs get placed in core jobs and instead opt for non-core sectors or start-ups. Companies like BMW and Mahindra have taken in a good number of M.Techs from the mechanical stream.

Therefore, it is crucial to recognize your capabilities and potential, and not judge or compare yourself based on the degree you possess. B.Techs and M.Techs have different parameters of evaluation, and both seem to have done well for themselves in their respective fields. Remember to focus on your skills and knowledge, work hard, and opportunities will follow

Is it a bad decision to choose UIT-RGPV for a Bachelor of Engineering?

MG
Monika Gupta Posted On : March 15th, 2023
Cse from rgpv helped in cracking gate

When considering whether choosing UIT-RGPV for a Bachelor of Engineering is a bad decision or not, it all depends on what you expect from the college. You may not receive the same level of placements as that of IITs, NITs, or even top private colleges, but you will have a lot of free time at your disposal, which you can use to acquire maximum knowledge. You'll have fewer classes to attend, so if your aim is to prepare for higher studies instead of taking a job directly after college, then the college will be highly beneficial for you.

To make the most of your time at UIT-RGPV, you should work hard for a year and try to secure admission into one of the highly reputed national importance colleges, such as NITs or IITs. This way, you'll be taking a proactive approach to your education and setting yourself up for success in the future.

Should I pursue ECE from MSIT or CS from BPIT?

SR
Sukriti Roy Posted On : May 19th, 2021
Studied ECE at MSIT

Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology (MSIT) and Bhagwan Parshuram Institute of Technology (BPIT) both are private engineering colleges in New Delhi affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU). There is not much of a difference between them in terms of the syllabus of the branches.

Here are some of the things that you should know about the two courses.

Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE):

  • The prerequisite for doing well in this branch is a strong grasp of mathematics.
  • Most of the subjects in this branch are logic-based and if your mathematics is good, then you can easily score and get some good grades.
  • As for placements, core companies almost do not visit any of the two colleges (hardly 1 or 2). However, jobs in the service-based sector are plentiful and you can easily get them on the campus of MSIT with almost no knowledge of ECE.

Computer Science and Engineering (CSE):

  • There is no prerequisite for doing well in CSE at BPIT and you can easily score good grades.
  • Top companies like Amazon, Commvault also visit the campus along with service-based companies such as TCS, Wipro, etc.

2021 Placement Statistics:

Parameters

MSIT

BPIT

Average CTC

4 LPA

3.95 LPA

Highest CTC

13 LPA

10 LPA

Choose a branch according to your strengths and passion. In terms of college, both are almost equal and branches should be the differentiator rather than the college.

RGPV (Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya) minimum passing marks for BE:

  • Sessional/Internal marks: minimum 40% to pass the internal component
  • Practical/lab: minimum 40% to pass practicals
  • Combined: for passing a subject, you need minimum marks in both theory and internal separately — you cannot compensate one with the other

for promotion to the next year: you need to clear all subjects of previous year(s) or stay within ATKT rules (max 4 backlogs allowed for promotion under RGPV's scheme). check the latest RGPV examination ordinance on rgpv.ac.in for your specific batch's rules as passing criteria can vary by exam scheme.

Should I take CSE at BIT Mesra or NIT Jamshedpur?

AR
Aditi Roy Posted On : September 4th, 2023
lives in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India

The best way to determine the right choice between CSE at BIT Mesra or NIT Jamshedpur is to go through a comparative analysis of both colleges. Consider the following parameters

  1. Campus : BIT is a private engineering college so it obviously has better infrastructure and a well-maintained campus. Its location also is quite favorable in contrast to Jamshedpur. NIT Jamshedpur campus is also decent although not at or with BIT Mesra.
  2. Infrastructure : Both the institutes have well-equipped computer Labs and other facilities.
  3. Degree : BIT Mesra offers a degree of Bachelor of Engineering (BE) whereas NIT Jamshedpur offers a degree of B.Tech (Hons)
  4. Placement : Most companies that visit BIT also come to NIT. BIT Mesra's average package last year stood at INR 13.01 LPA while NIT Jamshedpur's average package was recorded at INR 14.72 LPA last year.
  5. Ragging : NIT Jamshedpur has a ragging-free campus while there are rumors of ragging incidents at BIT Mesra.
  6. Fees: NIT Jamshedpur fees are much less in comparison to NIT Jamshedpur. The first-year fees at NIT Jamshedpur are 1.88 Lakhs (1st Year Fees) while that at BIT Mesra is INR 3,03,500/Y

Both the colleges offer similar opportunities with minor differences. So if you want the NIT tag, Hons degree, and lower fee then go to NIT, else BIT Mesra is the one for you.

Which one is better: IT in IIIT Allahabad or CSE in BITS Goa?

MS
Muktesh Shukla Posted On : March 21st, 2023
Studied at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIIT Allahabad)

The IT degree at IIIT Allahabad is considered one of the best in India, and it is aligned with the CSE curriculum from the best IITs and NITs in India. The professors are a mixed bag, with some highly qualified, doing good research, and teaching well, while some may be uninteresting. However, with some self-motivation, the academic landscape is quite good.

IIIT Allahabad has a great culture for programming, which can help you become a serious developer. The infrastructure is good, the campus is green, and the architecture is impressive, with the added benefit of being centrally air-conditioned.

On the downside, the city life in Allahabad is not great, especially if you come from a metro city. You may experience a cultural shock. The research environment is not exceptional, and there are only a handful of students aspiring to pursue higher education. You will find yourself in a batch of more than 200 students, in which you have to create your own identity. The weather is terrible, with extremely hot summers and cold winters (although some people may like the winters). The sports infrastructure is not the most amazing one.

In summary, here's the verdict:

  • If you're interested in research and want to pursue technical education further in your career, BITS Goa may be the right choice for you.
  • If you want a great Indian IT job after your degree, IIIT Allahabad may be the right choice for you.
  • If you're looking for a better peer group, better girls, and a more happening city life, BITS Goa may be the right choice for you.
  • If you're serious about programming and have a penchant for Competitive Programming, IIIT Allahabad may be the right choice for you.
