Which is better, NIT Calicut for CSE or IIIT Bangalore for CSE?
Students from both these institutes will have a bias for their respective colleges. If you ask IIIT Bangalore students, they will recommend you choose their college. The same is the case for NIT Calicut students.
Reach out to one senior from both these colleges who belongs to the CSE department. Ask them about the infrastructure, faculty, curriculum, placements, and other important aspects of their respective department. Don’t ask an NITC student about IIITB, and vice versa. This is because they might have misconceptions about the other institute.
I would recommend IIIT Bangalore. The institute has top-notch faculty, placements, research facilities, campus quality, and hostels. Moreover, it doesn’t follow any reservation criteria for admissions, unlike NITC.
Try to approach seniors from both these colleges, and research a bit on the IIIT Bangalore CSE department. Also, IIIT Bangalore offers iM.Tech in CSE, and not B.Tech.

The delivery of the CS curriculum at IIIT Hyderabad is indeed a beautiful process because that’s what IIIT Hyderabad is known for. The curriculum is taught through extensive pedagogy in the form of classes, tutorials, lab sessions, assignments, and mid and end-sem exams.
- Classes: The classes are very dynamic covering very little concept in detail addressing the whys and whats. The classes are very helpful and most students who are attentive can score good grades easily.
- Labs: Here, the theoretical concepts are given a practical approach and their implementation is taught by the TAs. They help you constantly in rectifying errors and shortcomings in coding.
- Tutorials: Tutorials usually comprise advanced concepts and a bit of high-level problems. They challenge the cider in you and are very helpful in improving your caliber.

SRM Ghaziabad vs SRM Sonepat for CSE — these are two newer SRM campuses (not SRM Kattankulathur main), and the comparison matters.
SRM University Delhi-NCR, Sonepat (Haryana):
- Established 2013. NAAC B+ accredited. Affiliated to its own university status (SRM University Delhi-NCR).
- Placement: ~65-70% BTech. Average CSE: ~4.5-6 LPA. Companies: Infosys, TCS, HCL, Wipro, Cognizant primarily.
- Location: Sonepat, Haryana — close to Delhi NCR, accessible for internships.
- Fees: ~?1.8-2.2L/year.
SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ghaziabad (Modinagar):
- Note: "SRM Ghaziabad" could refer to different entities — there's SRM affiliated AICTE institution in Modinagar. NOT the same as SRM University.
- Placement: Generally lower profile than Sonepat campus. ~55-65% placement.
- AKTU affiliated — degree from AKTU, not SRM University.

If I get selected into NSIT and IIIT-H for computer science, which one should I choose? What are the pros and cons at each of them?
Here are the pros and cons of both NSUT and IIIT Hyderabad
NSUT Pros:
- NSUT has a very light academic workload so you can spend time exploring your passions
- The crowd here is excellent and will teach you a lot during your time here.
- NSUT is located in the capital city and enjoys a lot of benefits. Moreover, it’s located away from the hustle and bustle of the city in
- NSUT students get easy access to internships because Delhi has a lot of start-ups.
- NSUT hostels are decent and the food served is much better than a lot of other colleges around.
NSUT Cons:
- NSUT has Computer Engineering instead of Computer Science & Engineering which comprised subjects related to hardware
- The syllabus is outdated and no new developments in the field are covered. Moreover, core CS subjects are taught only after the 5th sem
- NSUT has a very pathetic research scenario and only a few professors are involved in good research work.
- NSUT infrastructure and facilities are in a very bad state. There isn't a Wi-Fi facility on campus and no internet in hostels.
IIIT Hyderabad Pros:
- IIIT Hyderabad has the best CS curriculum in India. You will be mostly studying core CS courses.
- IIIT Hyderabad has a rich coding culture and has produced a large number of coders. Some of them have even been featured at the top in online programming judges and competitions
- IIIT Hyderabad has an active research culture and students are required to do research as a part of their course.
- The placement scenario of IIIT Hyderabad is amazing and the best companies come for recruitment.
IIIT Hyderabad Cons: Its curriculum is pretty challenging and very much CS-tailored making it difficult for students to explore their non-CS interests.
I will suggest you go for IIIT Hyderabad as it has better opportunities and an academic environment.
What is the course: electronics and computer science engineering at KIIT?
As a reflection of the sheep mentality, the majority of engineering aspirants can be seen running after CS or IT. However, I will suggest you also give preference to your interests first.
Electronics and Computer Science Engineering is a recently launched branch at KIIT and is actually great. Not many batches have passed out yet, but the branch seems promising like any other branch at KIIT.
- In the first year, the same foundation courses are taught that are common in all the branches. These include Physics, Chemistry, Basic Electronics, Engineering Mechanics, etc.
- From the second year, you will be intrigued by the ECE concepts. Out of the overall curriculum, approximately 55% weightage is given to electronics subjects and 45% weightage is given to CS subjects.
- From what I have heard, the subjects taught to ECE are easier than the subjects taught to CS and Electronics students individually.
In all, Electronics and Computer Science Engineering is a decent choice especially if you are interested in the field. However, if you are still aiming for CS, then you can opt for a branch change after one year. The cut-off for branch change is 8.5 CGPA but to get into CS you will need around 9.2+ and 8.9 or more for IT.
Which is better: DTU CS or IIT Delhi textile?
While many might suggest you go for DTU CS, and not run after the IIT tag, my opinion may vary. Had I been in your place, I would have chosen IIT Delhi any day over DTU because the exposure, opportunities, brand value, research opportunities, and top-notch education that come with it are worth a few boring Textile Courses.
Most importantly, IIT Delhi allows you to take electives in the field of your choice and you can always opt for CS electives for better placements. Some common courses undertaken by students who opt for non-core placements are
- Data Structures
- Algorithms
- Operating Systems
- Computer Architecture
With the right balance of basic textile education and these courses, you can avail of both, CS education as well as IIT tag. However, you will have to study some courses in which you are least interested, thereby wasting your time. This sacrifice is justifiable when you keep in mind the CS faculty of IIT Delhi which is far better than DTU.
What would be a comparison between CSE at IIIT Delhi and IIIT Bangalore?
Based on my research, I will present some points to support the opinion that I will put by the end of my answer-
- Faculty- The faculty of IIIT Delhi is considered to be one of the best in India. The college offers top-quality classroom teaching. But even IIITB has good professors.
- Curriculum- IIITD offers the most relevant and flexible curriculum for B.Tech CSE. They will teach you core CS from the first year itself. Even IIITB teaches core CS from the first year, but it started with iM.Tech quite recently, in 2017. IIITB doesn’t offer B.Tech courses.
- Funding and perks- As IIIT Delhi is a state government-run institute, it gets funding and other perks.
- Infrastructure and Internet facilities- Being a new institute, IIIT Delhi has better infrastructure and Internet facilities.
IIIT Bangalore is a better choice for an M.Tech CS, based on curriculum, placements, etc. But as far as UG studies are concerned, B.Tech CS at IIIT Delhi is better than iM.Tech CS at IIIT Bangalore.
How is electronics and computer at Thapar University? Should I prefer it over electronics and communication?
There is a considerable difference between the two branches of Electronics and Computer and Electronics and Communication. You can make an informed decision only after knowing the nature of the branches and seeing if they align with your interests. So, let’s look at these branches individually
Electronics and Communication - This branch covers concepts related to electronic circuits, and their application in electronic devices. It also includes concepts related to communication systems, CORE Electronics, and its application in embedded communication systems.
Electronics and Computers: This branch has been recently started in collaboration with Trinity College and Dublin. The branch covers basic electronic circuits and devices. It includes courses like Data Structures and Algorithms, Machine learning, etc. Basically, it’s the control of electronic devices using the methods of a computer.
