Is IIIT Ranchi CSE a good choice for B.Tech, or would VIT Vellore be better? (also note that I'd be trying to get into a good university abroad for MBA after BTech.)

Muskan Agrahari Posted On : June 27th, 2025

Both IIIT Ranchi and VIT Vellore can help you build a strong profile if you want to pursue your MBA abroad after your B.Tech, but they have different benefits:

Quick Comparison Table

Criteria IIIT Ranchi CSE VIT Vellore CSE
Institute Type Government (IIIT, Institute of National Importance) Private Deemed University
Placements (Avg. CSE) 12–16 LPA 9.9 LPA overall, ~12+ LPA for CSE
Highest Package 28 LPA 88 LPA
Fees (Approx.) 5–6 lakhs total 7–9 lakhs (varies by fee category)
Global Exposure Limited but growing Strong international tie-ups (2+2, 3+2, etc.)
Alumni Network (Abroad) Small but credible Large and active globally
Campus & Infra Functional, developing campus Excellent infrastructure
Brand Value Abroad Good due to govt. tag Popular in Asia and the Middle East, gaining recognition

Good placements and a government-approved degree that enhances educational credibility are two benefits of pursuing an MBA from MBA Abroad View IIIT Ranchi. But apart from its greater alumni community and more structured international exposures, VIT Vellore has experiences that will be useful while seeking an MBA abroad, particularly through networking and word-of-mouth recommendations.

 – In case you would like to choose, pick IIIT Ranchi: lower fees and improved placements, a government degree (occasionally useful for MBA or scholarship exams), and greater personal attention are outcomes of having fewer students.

 – In case you would like to choose, pick VIT Vellore, in consideration of international programs and transfer possibilities, a large, engaged alumni community overseas, and further assistance to construct an MBA record through internships, activities, and clubs.

Can I get admission in the second year of B.Tech. in computer science?

Muskan Agrahari Posted On : June 26th, 2025

No, lateral entry, or direct second-year admission, is not available at NIT Agartala for B.Tech computer science or any other subject. Like all other NITs, NIT Agartala only admits students for the first year of B.Tech through JEE Main and then JoSAA counselling.
NITs do not offer lateral entry (after diploma). The facility is typically available at private and state-level colleges, but not at NITs or other central government institutions.
Colleges like Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT), Agartala, which offers lateral entry B.Tech after diploma, or any state technical university that accepts lateral entry through LEET or state-level entrance exams are options for diploma holders.

Since you are not particularly interested in any one branch, you should consider things like the institute's reputation, placement history, alumni network, and branch flexibility while choosing an engineering programme.

Is LPU a good college for BTech CSE?

OS
Om Shivarame Posted On : May 3rd, 2024
LPU student (2020–present)

LPU offers a BTech CSE course. The syllabus of BTech CSE at LPU blends industry-relevant projects, academics, and good placement opportunities. Pavan Kunchala from the 2022 batch of BTech CSE was offered an INR 1 crore package via LPU placements.

From the 2023 placement data that I have, the highest package secured by a CSE student was INR 54.7 lakh, followed by a Mechanical Engineering student securing the highest package of INR 54.9 lakh.

It is not just about more than just a few students getting placed with average CTCs from a private college like LPU. More than 1500 students in 2023 got placed at CTC above INR 10 Lakh with 220+ different companies. While more than 5000+ students from the class of 2023 were placed at CTC INR 5 Lakhs. Not only this, the profile diversity is also good at LPU. More than 500 companies including Microsoft, Amazon, Cognizant, Accenture, Bosch, IBM, Samsung, and more.

Which IIT should I choose, IIT Roorkee mechanical or CSE in the new IITs?Which IIT should I choose, IIT Roorkee mechanical or CSE in the new IITs?

AG

Lives in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India

It’s better to denounce the sheep mentality and think from your own perspective. If you are attracted to CS because of its lucrative branches, I suggest you not go for new IITs as the placement scenario is not that good.

IIT Roorkee, on the other hand, is a very old Engineering college with an excellent legacy. The rich coding culture motivates even non-CS students to learn coding to apply for software companies. The new IITs soaring in Guwahati and Indore lack the necessary resources and dynamism of coding.

One can always work on their noncore branches and gain additional skills to compensate for their flaws. But one should risk the Institute and always go for the best.

It’s better to choose IIT Roorkee Mechanical than CS in new IITs.

For 2022, Thapar University cutoff of B.Tech CSE was 98.67 (general category). For general category students with no reservation, it will be difficult to get CSE at Thapar with 88.3 percentile. But if you are a student of Panjab domicile, you can get admission through the home-state quota.
