New Delhi: The Supreme Court has refused the plea against the DMK’s signature campaign seeking abolition of NEET UG Exam nationwide. The decision was made on January 2, 2024.
The decision was made by Justices Surya Kant and KV Viswanathan, Supreme Court. They have directed the states to continue with conducting the nationwide entrance exams like NEET. The bench dismissed the petition that sought to prohibit such activities in Tamil Nadu schools.
When the petitioner told the bench that children are distressed though they have to face the examination eventually, Justice Kant observed,“Fortunately, now we have a very informed generation. Our children are not so innocent and now they understand everything”.
“They are far ahead of our generation They understand everything, what is the motive, what is the agenda, how it happens,” Justice Surya Kant said.
The bench, however, declined to entertain the petition. Earlier during October 2023, the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu had launched a campaign to obtain 50 lakh signatures in 50 days seeking to abolish the NEET.
The Tamil Nadu government had moved the Supreme Court challenging the validity of the NEET for admissions in medical courses in colleges across the nation, claiming that the single window common test is violative of the federalism’s principle.
