The Department of Textile Technology of Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jalandhar, has been awarded a substantial grant of INR 10 crore by the Union Ministry of Textile.

New Delhi: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jalandhar's Textile Technology Department has recently been awarded a grant of INR 10 crore from the Ministry of Textiles under the scheme of the National Technical Textile Mission.

The grant of INR 10 crore to the Textile Technology Department at NIT Jalandhar opens the doors for increased collaboration between academia and the textile industry. The coordinators of this project Dr Vinay Midha and Dr A Mukhopadhyay

Has highlighted that the National Technical Textile Mission was an initiative to promote textiles and enhance innovation in the technical sector at the Department of Textile Technology.

They added “The grant is intended to facilitate cutting-edge research, foster technological advancements, and nurture talent in the domain of technical textiles. The funds will be used to set up state-of-the-art research facilities, enhance laboratory infrastructure, and support collaborative projects addressing critical technical textile challenges of the industries.”

The Department has estimated that this financial boost will help them to explore new divisions, develop innovative materials, and contribute significantly to the growth of the sector. NIT Jalandhar Textile Technology Department is the only department that offers a textile program among 31 NITs. Some of the research areas are sports textiles, protective textiles, geotextiles, industrial textiles, and medical textiles.

Dr. Monika Sikka, HOD has mentioned that this partnership between the Ministry of Textiles and the Department of Textile Technology, NIT Jalandhar is poised to deliver transformative results.
