NIT Jalandhar M.Tech Self-Sponsored Begins Admission 2026; Apply by May 20

NIT Jalandhar has opened admissions for M.Tech (Self-Sponsored) Full-Time programmes for the academic year 2026-2027 (July 2026 session). A total of 200 seats are available across 18 engineering specializations including Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science & Engineering, VLSI Design, Data Science & Engineering, and Mechanical Systems Engineering. Candidates can apply online through the official website at www.nitj.ac.in, with the application deadline set for May 20, 2026 at 4:00 PM.

The admission process at NIT Jalandhar follows a two-tier selection system based on candidate qualifications. GATE-qualified candidates will be admitted based on their GATE score merit without any entrance test, with preference given in order of their rank. Non-GATE candidates must appear for a written entrance test scheduled for May 21, 2026 at 10:00 AM in offline mode at the respective departments. Physical counselling and seat allotment will commence on May 21, 2026 from 3:00 PM onwards for both GATE-qualified and test-qualified candidates.

Eligibility, Application Process, and Fee Details

Candidates must hold a 4-year Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology from a recognized institution with minimum qualifying marks as per GATE norms. Final-year students can also apply provided they complete all exams by August 15, 2026 and submit their degree by September 30, 2026. The application fee is INR 1,000 for general candidates and INR 500 for SC/ST/PWD candidates, payable online during application submission.

Artificial Intelligence specialization offers the maximum 30 seats, followed by Computer Science & Engineering with 20 seats and VLSI Design with 18 seats. Seats are reserved for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and EWS categories as per Government of India guidelines. Candidates must apply separately for each specialization they wish to pursue, and the category chosen during application cannot be changed later.

The semester fee for M.Tech (Self-Sponsored) ranges from INR 77,000 for day scholars to Rs 85,500 for hostellers, excluding mess charges which will be notified separately. Candidates must submit original certificates during document verification before fee deposition. Those in service must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer and submit it with their application.

After fee deposition and registration in the first round (May 25-28, 2026), candidates will receive their roll number, official email ID, internet access ID, and NITJ ERP account. Subsequent rounds of seat allotment will be conducted on May 29 and June 11, 2026 if vacant seats remain. The last date for seat surrender with full fee refund (minus Rs 5,000) is June 9, 2026, after which classes will commence as notified separately.
