NEET UG

New Delhi: Over 24 people have been arrested by the Bihar Police over an incident of paper leaking and cheating during the NEET UG exam 2024 held on May 05, 2024. Eight people were arrested in Katihar and four people were booked in Purnia. Two people in Vaishali, and two in Patna, as well as one person in Gopalganj, were all arrested for leaking papers or cheating in other ways.

14 “solvers”, i.e. people who impersonated NEET UG candidates and gave the exam on their behalf, were also arrested. According to estimates, “solvers” charge between INR 5 lakh and INR 10 lakh from each person.

The police were tipped off about a potential paper leak a few hours before the exam. According to Patna SSP Rajeev Mishra, investigations are currently underway to ascertain whether or not the question papers were leaked before the examination. He said in a statement, "Interrogation of the arrested and detained people is going on and many names have also come to light. Most of them would be forwarded to judicial custody and later remanded for further interrogation."

Mishra also said that this was a serious offense as it affected the “sanctity of the NEET UG exam”. He said that all the people arrested for the NEET UG 2024 exam will be sent to judicial custody. The cheaters and “solvers” have been charged with an FIR in Patna’s Shastri Nagar police station under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 407,408 (criminal breach of trust) and 120 B (punishment of criminal conspiracy).

Four “solvers” were detained in the Khazanchi Hat police station of Purnia district. According to Purnia SP Upendra Nath Verma, "All the arrested solvers are medical students. They were arrested from SR DAV School Centre in Purnea during the picture verification process.”
