Eligibility for a full-time PhD at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is limited to Indian citizens under 35 years old, though part-time candidates from government and industry have no age limit. Academic qualifications depend on whether the candidate applies with a master’s or a bachelor’s degree.

For a master’s in engineering, technology, science, or related areas, the student needs at least 60% marks or equivalent (55% for reserved groups). Students also need a valid national eligibility test score, like GATE or UGC-NET.

If the applicant is applying with a bachelor’s degree, then it is mandatory to have at least 75% marks (70% for reserved categories) and a valid test score. Final year students can also apply.

After selection, the candidate must report in person to the institute. They should register in their respective department and pay the required fees. They are also required to submit all documents within the timeline, or their admission will be cancelled.

Throughout the PhD, candidates need to pay their fees every semester and follow the institute's rules to maintain registration status. The guidelines ensure that admission is transparent, with both merit and procedural requirements clearly stated for every candidate.
