IIM Sambalpur has welcomed its largest MBA batch for the academic years 2023-2025, with a large number of 320 students. The batch has 60% female enrollment, with 197 seats, while the remaining 40% (132 seats) are filled by male students.
New Delhi: The 9th MBA batch at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur has been inaugurated for the academic years 2023-2025, marking it as the largest batch ever admitted by the institute. With a total of 320 students, the institute has expanded its intake from 300 students in the previous year.
In a significant development, IIM Sambalpur has achieved a noteworthy gender balance in the new batch, with 60% of the seats filled by female students. This translates to 197 seats out of the total 329 available seats. The remaining 40% of the seats, equivalent to 132 seats, have been filled by male students.

The institute has highlighted its commitment to providing a tech-based learning experience for the students, offering comprehensive tech-enhanced learning methodologies.
During the inauguration ceremony of the 9th MBA batch, distinguished individuals including Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, President of Vedanta Ltd., and Swati Agarwal, Partner at Deloitte, graced the event with their presence.
These esteemed experts shared enlightening perspectives with the attending students, emphasizing the importance of maintaining an open-minded approach throughout their academic journeys.
Expressing his delight in welcoming the largest batch in the institute's history, Mahadeo Jaiswal, the director of IIM Sambalpur, mentioned that at IIM Sambalpur, they highlight three core values, namely innovation, integrity, and inclusiveness, which are inspired by the teachings of Hindu deities - Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh.
He further stated that the three lines in the institute's logo represent these values, symbolized by the famous Sambalpuri handloom design. He believes that by focusing on these core values, Indian B-schools can achieve global recognition.
Jaiswal expressed his hope that the incoming batch will have a transformative educational experience that will lead to significant societal impact in the future.
Swati Agarwal, a partner at Deloitte, shared her insights on the concept of IPL in management, which stands for Impact, Purpose, and Leadership.
She elaborated that Impact represents the societal influence one has, Purpose reflects an individual's internal motivation, and Leadership encompasses qualities such as vision, empathy, and the ability to inspire others.
Stating the significance of two key elements, namely failures and friendships, Swati advised students to learn from failures and move forward, while also understanding the importance of fostering friendships. She encouraged them to cultivate authentic connections as these relationships would serve as support systems in their future endeavors.
Meanwhile, Tapan Kumar Chand, the President of Vedanta Ltd., shed light on the significance of ethical leadership. He imparted his professional experiences to the students, highlighting the importance of ethical leadership in various capacities and its long-term advantages.
He concluded by expressing the transformative power of focused endeavors, highlighting how they can contribute to remarkable achievements.
