IIM Calcutta and WBCHSE Join Forces for Leadership Development Training of School Heads

The WBCHSE has partnered with IIM Calcutta for leadership development training for head teachers of state government-run and aided schools. The second edition of the program was conducted at IIM-C on June 17-18.

New Delhi: The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education has joined hands with Indian Institute of Management, IIM Calcutta to offer leadership development training to head teachers of state government-run and aided schools.

The first batch of the second edition of the leadership program was held between June 17 and 18 at the IIM-C campus. The previous edition of the program, conducted in 2021-22, trained 985 head teachers across West Bengal in five batches.

According to the IIM Calcutta statement, the objective of the current (second) edition is to provide leadership development training to more than 2,000 head teachers.

According to Chiranjib Bhattacharya, the President of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, the training program was conducted in multiple batches and attended by heads of institutions from across the state. The collaboration received financial support from the state school education department.

Further, Bhattacharya stated that the objective of the training program is to equip the participants with essential skills and strategies to enhance their leadership and management abilities, thereby increasing their productivity in their day-to-day work.

According to IIM Calcutta, the leadership program was conducted by professors R Rajesh Babu, Chetan Joshi, and Sumanta Basu. Prof Peeyush Mehta, the Chairperson of IIM-C's Consultancy and Management Development Programmes (CMDP), stated that the program would have a significant impact on the school education ecosystem.

The statement reveals that the program's content is specifically designed for senior teachers and administrative heads of schools in West Bengal. It also highlighted that this program is an addition to IIM Calcutta's extensive portfolio of leadership development programs.

Joshi highlighted that the program's key focus is to empower and motivate school heads to take on a leadership role and become agents of change within their educational institutions and communities

Speaking about the emphasis placed by IIM Calcutta on creating a social impact through its executive education programs, Basu mentioned that this leadership development program for school heads is a continuation of that initiative.
