IIITDM Kancheepuram M.Des Admission 2026 Ongoing; Apply by May 4

IIITDM Kancheepuram has opened applications for its Master of Design (M.Des) program in Integrated Product Design for the 2026-27 academic year. The application window is ongoing and will close on May 4, 2026. Candidates must apply online through the official portal at iiitdm.ac.in/admissions/pg. The program is offered by the School of Interdisciplinary Design and Innovation (SIDI) which was established in November 2020 to promote design-centric education.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Design, or Architecture with a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD). A valid CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) 2026 score is mandatory for eligibility. Candidates who have completed their final year exams can apply by submitting provisional degree certificates. The program offers 25 seats under the CEED category for the 2026-27 batch. Candidates from diverse backgrounds with a valid CEED score and interest in design-centric engineering are encouraged to apply.

The M.Des program is a two-year course conducted in four semesters with 24 credits in the first semester and 22 credits each in subsequent semesters. The curriculum integrates design with technology, society, and environment through experiential learning.

Students engage in sketching, model-making, and reflexive narratives to develop creative confidence and design leadership. The program includes a full-semester internship in the third semester where students can gain industry experience or develop their own startup ventures.

IIITDM Kancheepuram provides state-of-the-art design studio facilities spanning 6,000 square feet equipped with prototyping tools and collaborative working spaces. The studio includes foam zones, fab labs, digital prototyping labs, clay corners, and rapid prototyping zones.

Students have access to precision lathes, CNC wood-working routers, CO2 laser cutting machines, 3D printers, and VR headsets. The institute also offers workshops with external design experts and industry mentors to enhance student learning and innovation capabilities.

The program fee structure includes an admission fee of INR 500, certificate/thesis fee of INR 500, and semester fees of INR 55,000 for the first year and INR 60,000 for the second year. SC/ST students are exempted from tuition fees. Hostel accommodation is compulsory for all students with hostel fees of approximately INR 47,996 per semester. CEED category students are eligible for Ministry of Education stipend of INR 12,400 per month for a maximum of 24 months subject to maintaining a CGPA of 6.5 and completing teaching assistance duties.

Previous M.Des batches have secured placements in renowned companies including Camlin, Saint-Gobain, Fire-Boltt, Empoise Design Studios, Simyog Technology, Apollo Tyres, and Design Art Industrial Design Studio. The program emphasizes product innovation with scope to incubate products through MaDeIT Innovation Foundation. Candidates selected after the May 18-20 interviews must accept their admission offer and pay fees by June 20, 2026 to secure their seat.
