KCET and COMEDK are both state-level entrance exams conducted in Karnataka for admission to engineering and medical colleges. KCET vs COMEDK: Key Differences

KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) is a state-level entrance exam conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). Candidates qualifying this exam are eligible to take admission to various undergraduate courses in both government and private colleges of Karnataka.

Whereas, COMEDK UGET is the state-level entrance exam in Karnataka conducted by Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka for admission to only private colleges in Karnataka

Eligibility

KCET vs COMEDK: Eligibility

The basic eligibility for both KCET and COMEDK is the same. Candidates appearing for any of the two exams must have passed 10+2 with PCM or PCB as their main subjects as per the course.

However, in the case of KCET, the applicant must have passed 10+2 from a school in Karnataka state only. In addition, the student must have studied for more than 7 years in a school in Karnataka.

On the other hand, COMEDK is open to students from other states also. Any student who has passed 10+2 from a recognized school in any state can appear for COMEDK.

KCET vs COMEDK: Exam Pattern

When it comes to the exam pattern, there is no significant difference between the two exams. Both exams are conducted in a similar format.

However, the only difference is that KCET is conducted offline (pen and paper mode) while COMEDK is conducted online (CBT mode)

Syllabus

KCET vs COMEDK: Syllabus

There is no difference in the syllabus of KCET and COMEDK. Both exams are based on the syllabus of classes 11 and 12.

For KCET, candidates must prepare from their Karnataka PUC 1st and 2nd year syllabus, while for COMEDK, candidates must prepare CBSE class 11 and 12 syllabus or syllabus of some equivalent board. 

Though the syllabus is common, KCET is considered to be comparatively tougher than COMEDK

KCET vs COMEDK: Admission Process

The main difference between the admission process of KCET and COMEDK is tabulated below:

KCET COMEDK
Students have to verify their documents before the counselling session and registration. Once the verification is done, students can fill in their choice of courses which is followed by seat allocation. The last step in the admission process is paying the admission fee. The process starts with the registration of the candidate followed by partial payment of the tuition fee. Then, students select the colleges and mock seats are allocated. After the whole process is completed, the document verification is done at last.

While there is no major difference in the registration fees of KCET and COMEDK, the admission fees for colleges under the two differ significantly.

Since KCET also covers government colleges, the fee structure for KCET accepting colleges is much lower as compared to private colleges accepting COMEDK. On average, the admission fees for KCET range from 18,000-36,000, while that for COMEDK, goes high up to 1,50,000 or more.

Before appearing for any of the exams, candidates are advised to decide on the branch and college one needs to get into and take mock tests for practice. Since the difficulty level of KCET is high, non-qualification in KCET does not mean doors for COMEDK have also closed.
