New Delhi: Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Medical College offers the most expensive MBBS course in the country with INR 30.5 lakh annual fees. The complete annual fees include students' hostel charges, with a total cost of degree INR 1.35 Crore.

As per the data, several other deemed colleges in Tamil Nadu charge an annual fee of over INR 25 lakh. The fees at Chennai's Sri Ramachandra Medical College stand first with INR 28.13 lakh. SRM Medical College, again from Chennai with Rs 27.2 lakh annual fees stands second.

The institute also charges an additional one-time university fee of INR 2.84 lakh, which the candidates must pay at the time of admission. It is not the only deemed college in the country to charge a high fee for a four-and-a-half-year degree.

A large majority of deemed colleges that charge an annual fee of over INR 25 lakh, in fact, come from Tamil Nadu. The charges include the annual tuition fee and hostel expenses of the colleges.

Some of these colleges also charge additional fees during admissions under various heads, including university fees, refundable deposits and caution money, running into a couple of lakhs.

At certain places, enrolling on hostel facilities is mandatory. In some colleges, the annual tuition fee remains constant for the whole course and in others, it increases by 2- 3% every year, taking inflation into account. Whereas, a medical degree in a government college in Maharashtra costs INR 1.3 lakh per annum for students.

In private colleges, where the fees are regulated by the Fee Regulating Authority, they vary from INR 7 lakh to INR 16 lakh per annum, excluding accommodation and other expenses such as deposits.

In February 2022, the National Medical Commission Issued a gazette suggesting the fees of 50% seats in private and deemed colleges be bought at par with those charged by government colleges in the respective states.
