Delhi University in EC Meeting Decided to Provide Financial Aid to 1669 Students; Admission Updates, and New Academic Policies Announced

Delhi University in EC Meeting Decided to Provide Financial Aid to 1669 Students


New Delhi: Delhi University conducted its 1270th Executive Council (EC) meeting on July 27, 2024. Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh was the head of the meeting and he announced that over INR 1.20 crore in financial aid has been given to 1,669 students under the Financial Support Scheme (FSS).

Financial Assiatance to Underprivileed Students

This scheme was introduced in 2022 to help economically weaker students with fee waivers. Students from families with an annual income of INR 4 lakh or less receive a full fee waiver, while those with an income between INR 4 and 8 lakhs receive a 50% fee waiver.

Additionally, these law students will be reimbursed up to INR 50,000 for laptops. The registration fee for SC/ST and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PWBD) students in the five-year Integrated Law Program was reduced from INR 1200 to INR 1000 for the 2023-24 academic session.

For the 2024-25 academic year, the university has completed three rounds of admissions for Postgraduate (PG), BTech, and five-year BA LLB and BBA LLB programs. About 90% of the seats have been filled, with around 11,000 out of 13,000 seats taken. The first spot round is in progress to fill the remaining seats.

Changes in Passing and Promotion Norms

The EC approved recommendations for new passing and promotion norms under the NEP UGCF-2022. Students must earn at least 28 credits from both semesters to be promoted to the next year. However, students involved in sports, extra-curricular activities, NCC, or NSS are exempted. A maximum of 26 credits can be earned per semester, totaling 52 credits per academic year.

Academic and Research Achievements

Vice Chancellor Singh highlighted that the Delhi University signed 33 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and a 12% increase in research papers published in Scopus-indexed journals. Additionally, 11 patents were approved or published in the last year.

Three Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) projects were approved, including the construction of a new academic building at Surajmal Vihar, a college building at Roshanpura Najafgarh, and a new educational building on vacant land in Dwarka.

Approval of Syllabi and Self Learning Material

The EC approved syllabi for the fourth, fifth, and sixth semesters according to the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework-2022 (UGCF-2022). Self Learning Material (SLM) for the School of Open Learning (SOL) was also accepted, with a review by an expert group planned based on Academic Council suggestions.

The EC approved the implementation of Vedic Mathematics-III, Vedic Mathematics-IV, and National Cadet Corps-III as Value Addition Courses (VAC) under UGCF-2022-23. Additionally, the formation of various committees was recommended to promote research culture within the university.
