Dr.Rupesh Kumar is currently serving as the HOD of St.Mary's Women's Engineering College at Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. Dr.Rupesh Kumar Annam is a distinguished academician and able administrator with more than 17 years of experience. He has grown from the ranks right here at the institute, starting his teaching career as a lecturer in 2006. Before assuming the position of HOD, he was the Assistant Professor at St.Mary’s Group of Institutions, Guntur. He obtained his Ph.D.(Material Science) from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, and his Master's Degree from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur. He has published 12 research papers in various reputed national and international journals, besides a couple of patents to his credit.He has authored a book and completed one UGC major Research project. In his impressive teaching and administrative career, he has consistently promoted innovative teaching practices and imaginative thinking. He has endeared himself to his students and colleagues alike through his affable nature and empathetic leadership style.

Being a head of department of St.Mary's Group of Institutions, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students
Responsibilities:
- Providing the best learning environment with qualified faculty,
- Motivating faculty to give a skilled education to the students
- Promote college visibility internally and externally, and
- Developing a friendly and healthy environment
Roles: Lead, manage, and develop the department to ensure it achieves the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities. Maintain the general discipline of the students and staff of the department.
How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?
(a) Counselling students by mentors, (b) Share faculty views, (c) Listening students stories and (d) Guiding the students etc.
How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry oriented?
(a) Through application oriented education like giving assignments (PPT/ doing small Project) on that topic.
(b) By giving a question everyday on a particular topic.
(c) Conducting Student questioning session.
(d) Through developing hands-on experience.
What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain necessary skills?
(a) By conducting training classes with real-time industry experts from the 1st year inspection.
(b) Conducting industry readiness competitions like tech fests, seminars, etc.
(c) Encouraging students to give seminars every week.
(d) By conducting competitions every 1st and 3rd Saturday on different topics.
How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?
(a) By conducting interaction sessions with the passout students
(b) By conducting interaction sessions by the Training and Placement department from the 1st year onwards.
(c) Improving Teamwork
(d) Encouraging them to take risks
Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?
Yes we have, We conduct various programs under the Scientia club of our department to develop their skills. Encouraging students to enhance their skills apart from education.
When you came to college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?
Every day I come to college 15 minutes early. And my vision is to give the best quality of education through smart classrooms and industry experts, encouraging faculty to take classes like inquiry-based, problem-solving education. I always instruct my faculty to take their classes in smart classrooms.
How does the curriculum of your department/college ensure the best practice of the industry?
Conducting regular meeting with industry people during their Board of Studies and design the curriculum with their inputs.
How does the department/college/University enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to the industry standards?
By conducting FDPs/seminars in college and sending faculty for various industries/seminars etc. Conducting a systematic evaluation and taking recommendation from the subject experts. Encouraging faculty for higher education.
What do you see as the department’s/college’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?
Well-experienced, qualified, trained, dedicated, energetic, and research-oriented teaching faculty, well-established infrastructure, Smart Classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, student’s friendly atmosphere in the form of excellent student–teacher rapport, and location. All these are possible by our visionary chairman sir.
What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?
(a) Set a Road map earlier to reach your goal
(b) Split your goal into small intervals
(c) Stay with your passion until you reach
(d) Develop study-practice (doing small projects) program
(e) Balance with personal life
