Dr. Umesh Kumar Singh is the Assistant Professor and HOD at Subhash Chandra Bose Institute of Higher Education. He holds a M.Sc. in Zoology from Meghalaya University. His research interest is in Microbiology. He has seven years of work experience in the teaching field.

Being a Faculty of the Education Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students? 

Being the faculty of education diploma and elementary department my roles and responsibilities are to provide the best of our knowledge to students to give whatever we have for the students. To become medium for knowledge to be transferred to the students. We keep on updating ourselves, and students about the things. Managing all things related to activities which are conducted in the institution. 

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

We listen to all the faculty members, and students' opinions if they have any problem so that we can solve it at the same time. We work closely with the students in our institute which creates excitement among the students.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

Skill development programs like training, activities, presentation and so on that we conduct in our college from which the skills of the students will also be enhanced. We focus on the students' experience and how much the students gain from the various activities. 

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

This program is also a technical line, in today’s world as everything becomes online, students' interest is going towards the online things, in which students gain technical knowledge related to their specific field. We also give them projects to complete in group or individual, so that students could become interactive and confident to talk with any person and understand how things can be done.

How did you train yourself/ faculty to deliver this program to the students?

We are regularly updating the curriculum, training our faculties to provide best to the students , we are discussing the projects, tasks that should be conducted in the classrooms, teaching materials we also provide so that students can understand everything in detail.

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain necessary skills?

We Provide internships, practical knowledge, projects, tasks and so on that will help students clarify their educational career as well as build their skills for a better future. 

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated to make it befitting for the students? 

We do events, seminars, projects, and so on. Whatever new things have come in the industry or market, we make them aware about it and give them more practical knowledge so that they can understand well and gain experience.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

We provide extra lectures to engage the students for the preparation of the competition in the outside world. In which we tell them about the questions that can come in the exams and tell them how to write the answers in the proper way so that they can gain extra marks and improve presentation skills.

What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead? 

Students should work on themselves, do the work in which they are interested, we can't force them for their future. We can only provide a platform or opportunities but only the fact is they should be disciplined so that they can understand themselves and gain knowledge whatever is taught in the colleges from which they gain a basic thing about the particular thing. They can achieve their target only when they are disciplined.
