Mr. Abhishek Das currently serves as the Head of the Fashion Design Department at INIFT, Kolkata. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Mr. Das has made significant contributions to the world of fashion. He holds a PhD in Fashion Design and contributes his time to research in fashion.

Mr. Das cultivated their talent by earning a bachelor's degree in Fashion Design and a Master's degree specializing in sustainable fashion practices. Throughout their career, Mr. Das has collaborated with leading fashion houses, renowned designers, and industry professionals. His designs have graced international runways, earning critical acclaim. He has also presented research papers and expertise at numerous national and international conferences.

As a leader in the education sector, I am driven by my passion for fashion. I am committed to spreading my knowledge through education. I have an innate desire to make a positive impact on the lives of students. The satisfaction of seeing students succeed and achieve their goals is what keeps me connected to the education sector. 

How does the curriculum of INIFT Institute ensure the best practice of industry?

Our curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the principles and practices of the industry. We incorporate practical training, internships, and industry collaborations into our programs to ensure that our students gain a thorough understanding of the industry and are equipped with the skills and knowledge required for success. We also regularly update our curriculum to include the latest trends and movements in the industry.

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

What was your vision for the INIFT? Has it evolved over time, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

When I first joined INIFT, my vision was to create a world-class institution that provides students with a comprehensive education and prepares them for success in their careers. Over time, this vision has evolved to incorporate a greater focus on innovation, global collaboration, and community outreach. We have made significant progress in implementing this vision, but there is always room for improvement and growth.

What would you like people to know about your Institution they may not know?

INIFT is more than just a fashion and design institute. We are committed to providing our students not just with a comprehensive education but also make them prepare them for success in a wide range of industries by teaching them the right technical and soft skills. Additionally, we strive to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity and innovation among our students and faculty.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for INIFT specifically?

Some of the biggest challenges in higher education include adapting to new technologies and teaching methodologies. Keeping up with the changing needs of industries is tough. Another major issue is providing affordable and accessible education to students of all backgrounds. INIFT specifically faces challenges such as maintaining a strong industry-focused education. We also need to ensure a well-rounded education and be adaptable to the fast-paced and ever-changing fashion and design industry.

We establish a healthy relationship and environment at INIFT by prioritizing open communication, respect, and inclusivity. We encourage a collaborative and supportive learning environment. Yes, we offer a variety of extracurricular activities and programs. These activities allow students to develop their skills and gain real-world practical experience. These include industry visits, internships, and workshops conducted by industry professionals.

We encourage our students to focus on developing their skills and gaining practical experience through internships and industry projects. We also provide them with access to career counselling services and job placement support. We make sure the students are receiving all the help necessary to succeed in a competitive job market.
