Dr. G. Bagyalakshmi is the Head of the Mathematics Department at SMS College of Arts and Science. She holds a Phd in Mathematics. She has over 20 years of experience in teaching field. She has published nine research papers in national and international journals in her research area Intuitionistic Fuzzy Topological Space. Also she has presented and participated in various National and International Conference.

The latest program offered in Department of Mathematics is how to use the Vedic Mathematics in day-to-day life and also to attend the competitive examinations in an easy way. Also, the program in DEFACTO OF MATHEMATICS about Operations Research enhances knowledge of the students in that field, so that they can be able to perform better compare to other students in the same field. These program will help students to understand the concepts of Mathematics much easier in comparison with others in competitive situations. The program conducted by our department will help the students outperform and stand apart from the crowd.

How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?

Education field itself is an everyday learning process for both faculty and students. To make students understand the concept we professors needs to prepare ourselves by learning the updated concepts through online videos, books, journals and magazines to make every way possible to make students understand in an easier way. Also, faculties of the program continuously enhance their knowledge by attending seminars, online workshops, offline workshops, and faculty development program to upgrade themselves to keep alive with day today developments.

How do you tend to build an industry connection with this program? 

We have tie ups with the technical companies and industries to provide practical knowledge for the students with regards to this program which makes students to virtualize the real time experience of the program and offer internships to ensure their career growth. The programs is very much useful in Information Technology and also in the banking sector.

What made you decide to become a teacher?

I got inspired from my college Professor Dr. Kaniyappan, his knowledge in Mathematics , and his passionate toward teaching field, interaction among students, enthusiasm and way of teaching made me to choose teaching as a profession. His philosophy and guidance was very helpful for me to complete the course and made me to join in a well esteemed college. His constant guidance and positivity towards me made me to achieve the highest level of the degree in teaching field.
