What is the latest program you are offering in your dept. that will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?
Implants have become the gold standard treatment for the replacement of missing teeth/ teeth. Keeping in mind the aim that our students should be well trained in the latest & advanced modalities department has initiated a “Preclinical Oral Implantology Course” for BDS Final Year Students & “Basic Course in Oral implantology” for Interns.
What factors make this program the best for the students to opt for?
“Preclinical Oral Implantology Course” for BDS Final Year Students is designed to make students aware of the various implant components & steps involved in implant treatment. Pre-clinical exercises based on various clinical procedures involving implant treatment increase students’ understanding. “Basic Course in Oral Implantology” has been launched for Interns. The course comprises Didactic Lectures, Demonstrations, Hands-on exercises, and Live surgeries. Under this program, each intern will get an opportunity to place and rehabilitate 2 Implants. It also gives them a chance to enhance their clinical skills by practicing various procedures such as Osteotomy, Placement of dummy implants, suturing, and implant impressions on dummy models before performing Implant treatment for patients.
What are the best practices in the course you’re offering?
Basic concepts are being taught through lectures & discussions with the students. Each student is given individual attention while performing Hands-on exercises so that they have a better understanding of the clinical procedures involved in Implant treatment. Students are encouraged to do treatment planning for their cases which are then discussed with faculty from various specialties. These practices increase the clinical and theoretical acumen of students making them more confident & competent in performing the treatments.

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?
We at the Department of Prosthodontics want our undergraduate & postgraduate students to be trained to independently perform diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance, and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth or maxillofacial tissues by using biocompatible substitutes. The replacement of missing teeth with implant-supported prosthesis is the latest, most advanced, and ideal treatment. The course provides knowledge of all concepts required and clinical patients increase the confidence of students to deliver a successful implant prosthesis.
How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?
The faculty for the course is chosen by keeping in mind their academic experience and clinical expertise in the field of Oral Implantology. All the lectures, Hands-on exercises, Demonstrations, Case discussions & Implant Cases are done under the supervision of Heads of the departments of Prosthodontics, Periodontics & Oral Surgery. Suggestions are taken from participants and changes are made accordingly to enhance the learning experience of the students.
