IDST Ghaziabad BDS FAQs
Ques. What is the NEET UG cutoff for BDS at IDST Modinagar?
Ans. IDST Modinagar does not publish a fixed NEET cutoff score. Admission depends entirely on the merit rank in the UP NEET UG centralised counselling conducted by DGME UP. Since all 100 BDS seats are filled through the state quota, the effective cutoff varies each year based on the total applicant pool, state seat matrix, and category-wise availability in that session.
Ques. Is the BDS degree from IDST Ghaziabad recognised by the Dental Council of India?
Ans. Yes. IDST Modinagar is a DCI-approved institution affiliated to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University (ABVMU), Lucknow. The BDS degree conferred by ABVMU is recognised under the Dentists Act, making graduates eligible to register with the state dental council or the central Dental Council of India and legally practise dentistry in India.
Ques. What clinical training does IDST provide during the BDS programme?
Ans. IDST operates an integrated multi-specialty dental hospital on campus drawing patients from the Modinagar industrial belt and surrounding rural areas. BDS students rotate through all departments including conservative dentistry, oral surgery, orthodontics, and prosthodontics, accumulating the hands-on case load mandated by DCI for the degree. The college also conducts outreach dental camp programmes for additional exposure.
Ques. Can a BDS graduate from IDST pursue MDS specialization?
Ans. Yes. After completing the BDS programme and the mandatory one-year compulsory rotatory internship, graduates are eligible to appear for NEET MDS. IDST itself offers 8 MDS specializations, so graduates can apply internally or at any MDS-offering institution in India. The availability of in-house MDS options makes IDST a practical choice for students planning specialist or academic careers in dentistry.
Ques. Are hostel facilities available at IDST Modinagar for BDS students?
Ans. IDST Modinagar provides separate hostel blocks for male and female BDS students on campus. The combined hostel and mess fee is INR 93,500 per year, charged in addition to tuition. Hostel accommodation is optional. The college is located on NH-58 and has RRTS connectivity, making daily commuting feasible for students from Delhi NCR and Ghaziabad city.
Ques. How is the BDS course structured at IDST over five years?
Ans. The BDS programme at IDST spans four academic years of formal study followed by a one-year compulsory rotatory internship, totalling five years. The curriculum follows the DCI-prescribed syllabus under ABVMU, covering preclinical subjects in the first year and progressively introducing clinical postings from the second year. The internship rotation covers all major dental departments and includes community dental health postings.
