Dr. V. Devi is the Principal of Thiruthangal Nadar College. She has 23 years of experience in the department of computer science and applications. Some of her other roles include Dean for Students, Assistant Coordinator in IGNOU, Assistant Chief Superintendent, IDE Madras University, Faculty In Charge of NAAC in the Department of Computer Applications and Life Time Member of the International Science Congress (ISC), International Association of Engineers (IAENG), Computer Science Teacher Association (CSTA) and International Computer Science and Engineering Society (ICSES). Dr. Devi has published 11 papers in scopus indexed journals, 36 papers in national and international magazines, and 9 papers in UGC care list journals. Moreover, she has participated in over 50 seminars, workshops and conferences. She is also the author of five books on Computer Science.

How do you see the future growth of the college, and what are the initiatives that are been taken by you to lead the institution to next level?
The primary vision of our college is to obtain knowledge, foster the students in a positive way and develop the intellectual skills to become empowered thinkers. Our college has steadily focused ahead since inspection, adapting to the various upcoming changes in the world and also retaining our core values of service, integration and discipline. Skill Development Centre and Centre for Excellence are introduced for the future growth of the College, this initiative will defiantly lead the Institution to next level.
What is the mission of your college and how has it been implemented to the students?
The mission of our college is to provide quality and need-based education to the students with facilities of higher education. As per the mission, we have introduced several full-time programs with new and in-demand specializations. Our PG programs were also introduced to meet the curriculum needs of the students to be used in their future. Research centre for Commerce was initiated and 10 Research Scholars are enrolled to take up the research word of TNC to next level.

How does the teaching methodology ensure that the students are equipped with the skills and knowledge that are necessary in today’s competitive world?
Our college is affiliated with the University of Madras. Along with the core courses, the curriculum offers non-major electives and allied and soft skill courses to provide interdisciplinary knowledge to the students. The department offers interdisciplinary seminars and workshops to improve the academic and research parameters. We are provided Add-on course to students particularly the NPTEL courses are educated to the students to equip their knowledge to face the competitive world.
How is your college infrastructure will it be for the students to study effectively and efficiently?
We have well-ventilated and lightning classrooms and smart rooms on our campus. The classrooms seminar hall, Wi-Fi enabled. Some of our other noteworthy infrastructure includes our conference hall and indoor auditorium with a seating capacity of 600. We also have an outdoor auditorium with a seating capacity of 1200. Our seminar halls have a seating capacity of 500 that we use to conduct seminars and workshops. Additionally, we have computer labs and a language lab with 600 computer systems and Science lab, forensic lab for Science Department students.
How does the college promote an environment that encourages students to participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities?
TNC Skill Hub provides soft skill training and certificate courses for students’ personal growth and their future career aspects. We engage the students in leadership roles, case studies, and self- learning courses. In collaboration with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India, the institution provides training in various crafts and guides students to set up their own entrepreneurial ventures as well. We also had a Skill Enhancement Certified Program that was conducted in collaboration with the BHUMI Foundation to up-skill students in technology. The TNC had a RTP (Ragham, Thalam, Pallavi – Cultural club) to motivate and train the students to participate in various inter-collegiate events.
How many courses that have been offered in your college and how the curriculum delivered to the students effectively as per today’s industry trends?
Thiruthangal Nadar College of Arts and Science offers 18 UG programs, two PG programs and one research program in Commerce. These follow the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) syllabus prescribed by the University of Madras and ensure effective curriculum delivery.The Academic Committee takes up this responsibility as well as plans curriculum enhancement programmes. A well-structured academic calendar to include various curricular and co-curricular activities like bridging the gap with industry expectations, skill development, and value addition.
How does the college support and encourage students to pursue innovation and entrepreneurship as part of their academic journey?
The program’s outcomes are mainly achieved through curriculum delivery and assessment. The success of a programme is reflected in the upward progression of students. 32% of the students have progressed to higher learning centres and 61% are placed in renowned organizations. The bazaar was organised to encourage an entrepreneurial mindset. TNCAS has provided guidance and resources for students to protect their intellectual property through patents, copyrights and trademarks.

What strategies are being implemented to improve student engagement and success in both academic and non-academic areas?
Our research cell has been dedicated to working on recent areas of research and innovation by organising various activities related to new technologies. Setting up incubators through incubation cells on campus has provided resources and networking opportunities for start-ups and entrepreneurs. Our ED cell organises numerous events, such as, “Traditional Food in Coconut Recipe” and “TNC-Bazaar”-A stall was organised by the student community.
