Santosh Yadav has been working as the Professor and Head of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at Millennium Institute of Technology and Science, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. He has done B.Tech from Uttar Pradesh Technical University of Lucknow in 2008 and M.Tech from Samrat Ashok Technological Institute of Vidisha in 2011 as part of his education. He has also conducted research on Solar Energy and Multilevel Inverters and is currently pursuing PhD from MITS Gwalior. 

He has a rich 10 years of work experience and he has published 50+ research papers in reputed national and international journals. For his wonderful work in the education sector, he has won an award from Millennium Institute for Best Professor and has organized 2 Faculty Development Programmes followed by 3 national level seminars.

Being a Faculty of the Millennium Institute, what are your key responsibilities towards students?

As a Faculty Member and Head of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, my prime responsibility is to coordinate and manage all the PG branches of our college. And I am also the Center Superintendent and incharge of 1st year students. In addition to this, I need to act as a bridge between all the students and other faculty members of our college.

How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty of your institute?

For the purpose of maintaining a strong and long-lasting relationship with my students and faculty members, I regularly communicate with them and have also provided them with an ambiance where they can open up about their academic and personal issues without any hesitation. Along with this, whenever I talk to them, I carefully listen to their queries and try my best to solve those hurdles on time.

How do you bring in a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects?

Our well-qualified teachers provide best quality theoretical knowledge to students and then required practical exposure is imparted to them by organizing industrial visits and guest lectures in association with renowned industrialists and academicians. 

Apart from this, for the purpose of making students adaptable as per changing environment and technologies, students are regularly engaged in practical and real-time research projects. And the most effective benefit of this approach is that students come up with innovative ideas for real world issues and then implement them in the most efficient ways.

Which best practices are being offered by your department to students to help them gain necessary skills?

Our ECE Department provides the finest quality knowledge of Mathematics to students which can help them to learn about waste practices simulation & Ecats and also educate them about Circuit, Signal, Power and many other things related to Electronics and Electrical Engineering domain.

How do you strategize and upgrade the curriculum of your institute to make it befitting for the students?

We follow the curriculum designed and updated by RGPV and to make it more beneficial for students, various types of value-added courses such as Ecat, HMI, SKADA are included in it from time to time in collaboration with CRISP Bhopal. And if required, industry experts are also consulted to improve the overall quality of our institution curriculum.

What are your views on the placement of students from your department?

The placement statistics of our college is truly stellar and in the last academic year, our department had outperformed in the placements as 100% of our students got placed in various reputed companies in states such as Delhi and Gurugram etc. 

How do you prepare your students to deal with the outside competitive world?

We have designed a robust curriculum after consultation with industry experts and Engineering professionals. And as part of it, to enhance communication skills of students, a 1 hour duration practice session is conducted on a daily basis in association with the HR Department. 

Along with this, hands-on training programs are also organized so that young and ambitious students can confidently showcase their unique talents in front of others.

Which extracurricular activities are organized by your college to enhance the skills of students?

Our institution conducts an extensive range of co-curricular activities and events including sports tournaments for games like Badminton and Cricket, startup events, Entrepreneurship programs to enhance the students skills and make them future ready. 

What challenges have you faced in uplifting the education quality of your department?

One of the major challenges which we usually face while enhancing the education quality of our department is the lack of good communication skills in students and this ultimately impacts their overall academic performance. 

And the prime reason for this is that many of them come from local village areas, hence are not well-versed with the English language and it becomes difficult for us to understand their accent. But since we are their mentor, we put our 100% to improve their communication as well as academic skills.

When you joined this college, what was your vision for it?

My aim when I joined the Millennium Institute of Technology and Science, was to train and prepare students in accordance with the latest developments, trends and requirements of the modern competitive world and industrial sector, so that they can quickly adapt themselves in dynamic scenarios and gather a better understanding of life.

How does your department upgrade the skills of its faculty members as per industry standards?

For the purpose of enhancing the skills of our faculty members and upgrading their teaching methodologies in accordance with industry standards, our college regularly organizes Faculty Development Programs, workshops and seminars in collaboration with corporate experts and eminent academicians.
