Professor Ashwini N Puttannavar is the Training and Placement Officer at the AGM Rural College of Engineering and Technology. With over a decade of experience in the field, she holds a B.E. in Instrumentation Technology and an M.Tech. degree in VLSI Design and Embedded System. Professor Ashwini has taken part in eight international and national conferences, workshops and seminars, along with guiding eight students with their projects.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

We establish healthy relations in our college through discipline, accountability, encouragement, and injecting enthusiasm. We incorporate humour and but also treat students with respect. Keeping a positive attitude all the time and providing study materials to the students to keep them up-to-date is important. Using a formative assessment, we help the students find their weaker points and work on them. We also maintain a system of checks and balances through feedback and suggestions.

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain necessary skills?

It is a matter of great privilege and immense pleasure for me to be associated with the family at AGM Rural College of Engineering and Technology. The students at our college get to learn professional and quality skills besides technical expertise. Our holistic approach stimulates innovation among students by inspiring new ideas with creative thinking. We provide training sessions on the latest programming languages and organise regular webinars on the same as well.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

We try to help our students cope with competition by understanding the dynamically changing needs of the corporate world through formal, structured interactions. We also conduct detailed profiling of the students to identify their aspirations, strengths, weaknesses and potentials. We have a Fully Enablement Format that will address every issue, from competency to the students' exposure to corporate expectations, through direct contact at every stage of their education. We also have a 365 day commitment to the cause that underlines significance and preparedness.

When you came to the college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

To impart quality technical education to young minds, we empower the rural sectors by synergizing comprehensive education with social responsibility and ethical values to serve the nation. To mould these young minds as emerging technocrats, the college cultivates innovative teaching and learning techniques with high standards of professionalism and ethics to serve society. We prepare them to face development challenges by evolving appropriate solutions for sustainable, integrated growth.

What valuable advice would you like to give to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

Pursue a successful career in the field of Engineering by utilising your knowledge and contributing to the profession as an excellent employee or as an entrepreneur. Apply the knowledge of mathematics and fundamentals to analyse and formulate solutions to solve real-time problems. Exhibit professional and ethical values, communication, teamwork skills, and a multidisciplinary approach to addressing engineering and societal issues. Make use of modern tools for creating innovative career paths to be an entrepreneur and desire higher studies.

It is a matter of great privilege and immense pleasure for me to be associated with the AGM Rural College of Engineering & Technology. To establish healthy relations in the institute, we provide high-quality education for the socio-economic upliftment of weaker sections of society. We also work at developing innovative engineering with ethics, contributing to society through research, innovation, entrepreneurial and leadership qualities. What new initiatives and collaborations has the University established with Industry Leaders to promote industry-specific courses?

Our placement cell monitors employment opportunities, arranges campus recruitment process interviews for final year students and provides internship opportunities for pre-final year students. We start the placement process for the pre-final semester in the month of June. Students are prepared for all kinds of interviews through mock interviews and resume preparation sessions well in advance.
