SDMCET, Dharwad (Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Engineering & Technology), was established in the year 1979 under the flagship of SDME Society, a self-financing institute affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technical University (Belgaum) & University Grants Commission (New Delhi). Shreyas Patil, BE Computer Science and Engineering (2023 batch), He is impressed with the good campus culture, mentioning that it is free of harassment and well-disciplined. Shreyas appreciates the faculty for being cooperative and supportive, particularly during student festivals. The campus facilities, such as sports and hostel rations, are available, another plus point, where an equitable balance is maintained between boys and girls.
Conversely, he makes some of his concerns known—most particularly the excessively stringent regulations that confine cultural functions to merely once or twice annually. He also points out that the quality of food at the hostels occasionally becomes a concern for outsiders. The hostel leave rules are also rigid, with only one outing permitted per week and written authorization required for travel.
In terms of placements, Shreyas informs us that students become eligible in the third year, with major placements in the seventh semester. Top companies such as Cognizant, Microsoft, Amazon, and Dell visited campus drives. The maximum package offered was up to INR 40 LPA, and the average offer was about INR 4 LPA. Even with global fluctuations in placements due to international events, about 80% of students are placed, even though many, like Shreyas, wish to pursue further studies abroad.
