Being a Head Of Department of College, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?
My primary role is to maintain and provide strong academic leadership. My main role is to lead, manage and develop the department to ensure its achievement of the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities. I need to maintain the general discipline of the students and staff of the department and ensure the development of the curriculum to keep up with relevant changes. I also encourage a wide range of activities to learn the subject with practical skills. We also organise seminars, conferences, symposiums, workshops and training programs on advanced and relevant topics to help students gain better knowledge.
How do you try to bring in practical approach towards subjects and make it industry oriented?
By practising through hands-on learning, we are enabling our students to solve real-world problems and learn how to apply their knowledge. Our curriculum also focuses on polishing problem-solving, critical thinking and analysis skills in our students. By conducting workshops and technical talks on emerging trends and by conducting meetings with alumni, our students get to know about the latest technologies.
What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain necessary skills?
The best practises offered by the department include conducting seminars and workshops with industry experts. We have adopted active learning, group discussions, and concept tests that will test the students' knowledge. We focus on improving skills in students for which we have signed MoUs with third-party agencies to provide internships and site visits.
How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated to make it befitting for the students?
Every four years, we update our curriculum. We work on the core subjects and take into account the AICTE guidelines. We also need to work with our affiliated university, JNTU. We try to not only update our curriculum to reflect the latest trends but also have an international edge. Our goal is for the syllabus to generate better quality output among the students.

I always advise students to improve their communication skills and ask them to best practice in their relevant fields to cope with the outside competition. We regularly update the students with the necessary skill requirements to students. They complete mandatory internships, attend industry expert talks and network with alumni to keep up with what is required of them in the industry.
Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to the real-world challenges?
We have numerous extracurricular activities that take place throughout the academic year. We motivate our students to participate in hackathons, inter-institute competitions, online quiz events and many more educational events. These events are perfect for the students to check their strengths and weaknesses, as well as their improvements in weak areas.
What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education of your department?
Our biggest challenge is trying to uplift the quality of education in our department. We find it difficult to create more work to be done on assessment and evaluation tools so that students get better knowledge in academics and in their chosen subjects.
