Dr. P. Sampath Kumar is a Professor and HOD of the Department of ECE at Malla Reddy College of Engineering, Hyderabad. He has accomplished his PhD from JNTU, Anantapur, in 2020 and M.E. in VLSI and Embedded Systems in 2008, and B.Tech. in ECE in 2002. He has a total of 15 years of experience in the teaching sector. He has done 21 international journal publications, six paper presentations, guided 20 UGC projects and eight PG projects, and has two patents published.

You have held key positions throughout your professional career, what inspired you to pursue a career in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering? 

The ECE branch always has something going on when compared to new branches. This domain is evergreen and the most sought out branch of engineering in the world. The dynamic nature of the ECE branch ensures that it consistently evolves with technological advancements, providing students with a stimulating and forward-thinking learning environment. Could you provide some insights into your vision for the future of the ECE Department of at MRCE? What are some of your key objectives or initiatives?

Our objective is to become a center of excellence for budding engineers through motivation, commitment, passion, and social responsibilities. This vision underscores our dedication to not only instilling technical prowess but also nurturing a strong sense of ethics, social consciousness, and a drive for continuous improvement. By fostering a culture of motivation, commitment, and passion, we aim to mold engineers who not only excel in their fields but also actively contribute to the betterment of society. Our commitment to social responsibilities ensures that our graduates are not only skilled professionals but also compassionate and responsible citizens.


How do you stay up-to-date with the latest developments and trends in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering, and how do you incorporate this knowledge into your department's teaching and research?

We try to stay ahead of the trends by reading journals, and magazines, attending seminars and visiting industries. Also forming groups domain wise and attending the conferences we learn about the latest occurings in the industry. Our commitment to staying abreast of industry advancements extends to participating in online forums and webinars, where we engage with experts and peers in lively discussions on emerging technologies and best practices. Embracing a continuous learning mindset, we actively seek out opportunities for professional development, ensuring that our knowledge and skills remain at the forefront of our respective fields. This proactive approach empowers us to not only adapt to change but also to drive innovation and excellence in our work.


How do you encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities, hackathons, competitions, and research projects to enhance their practical skills alongside their academic learning?

To enhance learning practical skills we encourage the students to participate in all events including projects and expos. Our emphasis on hands-on learning extends to organizing workshops and hackathons, providing students with a platform to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. Additionally, we actively facilitate industry collaborations, enabling students to work on projects with professionals, further honing their practical skills and preparing them for the demands of the professional world. This multidimensional approach ensures that our graduates are not only academically proficient but also adept in the practical application of their skills.

How do you plan to collaborate with industry professionals and organizations to provide real-world experiences and opportunities for students in the ECE department at MRCE?

We have MOUs planned with industries to update knowledge and also industry visits are planned. These collaborations with industries are designed to provide students with firsthand exposure to cutting-edge technologies and practices in their respective fields. Furthermore, through these MOUs and industry visits, students have the opportunity to interact with professionals, gaining valuable insights and networking opportunities that contribute to their holistic development and future career success. This multifaceted approach ensures that our students are well-prepared to excel in the dynamic and competitive professional landscape.


Can you explain to us about the infrastructural facilities available with respect to ECE Department at MRCE?

The ECE department has modern and sophisticated labs with advanced tools like matlab, mentor graphics, multisim,ns2 simulator. We do have a library and spacious classrooms. We do provide world class infrastructure facilities in our college for students.


Being HOD, what strategies do you use to motivate and engage your students, and how do you ensure that they are well-prepared for their future careers?

For future guidance, students will be motivated to attend NPTEL courses, GATE coaching classes and attend technical seminars. We encourage students to actively participate in workshops and conferences relevant to their fields of interest. These platforms not only offer exposure to the latest advancements but also provide opportunities to interact with experts and peers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. By engaging in these diverse learning opportunities, students are better equipped to make informed decisions about their academic and career paths.
