Amity Business School ( ABS)

What do you consider your roles and responsibilities towards the university and the students?

Well, responsibility, I think, is a very strong word. And the moment you say responsibility, I personally believe you should be fulfilling every assigned responsibility to the fullest.

And being in university, I am getting a few heads. I have a few responsibilities. Talking about responsibility, I am the Director of a school called Amity Business School, which is the first school of higher education, and I am also the Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies of Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, where we have a few colleges in Noida campus, Greater Noida, Lucknow, Dubai, and Kashmir. I also have other responsibilities that I am taking care of, like being the Chairperson of the Examination Committee of the University and the Chairperson of the Discipline Committee of the University. So, there are many committees of which I am a member, a chair, or a part. My role also includes daily operation requirements. So

As dean of the Faculty of Management Studies, I am more into strategic consideration, so I am taking care of strategic planning.

As the director of Amity Business School, how do you plan the most important programs for managing the admissions of the university?

We are a known university that is ranked in the highest positions internationally and nationally. In QS time ranking, our ranking is very high nationally, and in NIRF ranking in NAAC, we are also in the top ranking. And because of that advantage, we are being considered by a few students by word of mouth, and otherwise, it does not mean that we do not do anything for the students. We are planning a few career planning sessions. We are having a different segment for management students there as a part of Amity Business School and other schools’ management domains, where I meet them and give the presentation regarding the programs to the parents, the students, and the interested candidates. And in addition to that, we also have a defined admissions team where we send the team to give presentations about various programs in various places.

Throughout your career you have held important positions in educational institutions. What is the main reason that keeps you connected to the education sector?

Education is the most important factor or key in anybody's life. To me, the education sector is a choice. I am a teacher by choice. When I say teacher by choice, that means this is a field that I have chosen, and this is my 34th year in this field. I enjoy my role as a teacher, and as a student of my subject, I try to learn as much as possible because the moment it is said teacher, then personally, you are a student. Learning is very important, as first you must learn and then teach. Teachers' beauty is that they will always be on the learning path, so I always remain on the learning path, and whatever role or responsibility is assigned to me, I take it in that capacity where I try to learn. You do not keep updated; you must keep yourself updated because the way the world is moving, the way things are moving, and the way changes are taking place, a teacher's primary responsibility is that he or she keeps on updating on a continuous basis. So, this is basically the reason that I can do justice to all my responsibilities in various administrative positions, especially with respect to academics.

How do you create a healthy relationship and a positive environment within your university?

I am heading a college and taking care of a group of colleges. I create a healthy relationship by following two things:

  1. Power is basically for those who do not desire
  2. You can get everything with love; there is no need for any power, and this is also the philosophy of Amity University, where the founder president, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, always advocates for one thing that is good behaviour, and one quote he mentions is BHAAG, where he says he speaks about hard work, attitude, and ambition. But two things, which he speaks about mainly, are behaviour and Almighty God. We all at Amity follow the same philosophy: we believe that relationships with colleagues, with superiors, and with juniors are of paramount importance, and that is what I also follow.

What do you think that sets your institution apart from other colleges and universities and how do you communicate that unique value proportion to the students?

Amity is different from other universities, and the first reason is the vision and mission of our president. We believe in a method called the case study method, and at Amity, we are only for education. This group only thinks about education. For Amity, values are of the utmost importance. So, one unique differentiator between Amity and other institutions is the value system, and the second is passion. We are passionate about education. If you see the ranking of Amity in the world and in national parameters, you may feel that we are in the top rankings. And if this happens only in a few years, then you can understand the passion. The second thing about Amity of which I am proud is that we do everything with great passion, especially in planning.
