In your 14+ Years of academic experience, you might have seen many changes in the educational domain. What are your thoughts on how the future is going to be in the AI and fast changing technology world?

In the present technology driven global scenario, it is quite challenging for the young graduates to cope up with the rapid pace of change that is currently taking place especially with artificial intelligence taking over the crust of techies around the world. Although it is exciting to prepare the young minds accordingly, we need to emphasize on the limitations of technology and urge them to realize the importance of balancing human intelligence as well.

How does DIET college empower students with its courses and train them as per best practices of industry?

We train our students with trending courses in line with the industry requirements. Majority of this process begins at the first year itself when we associate the students with professional bodies like IEEE, ACM, CSI, IETE, ISTE, IEI etc., and through various skill development and Internship activities and internships through collaborations with AICTE EduSkills, APSSDC, Udemy, AWS, Microsoft, RedHat, Internshala, etc.

Can you explain to us about the collaborations with external organizations to provide the latest training and skill development programs for students?

Collaborating with external organizations has been the extended heart of our curriculum since the past many years. Through over 25 MoUs and MoAs, DIET has always been in the forefront to impart latest technological training and skill development. Most of the active MoUs with organizations like NRDC, EduSkills, BSNL, NIT Warangal, NIT Surathkal, Smart & Soft Solutions, MS Grafix IT Solutions, Phalanx Consultants etc., allow our students to get direct and indirect access to the ongoing technical advancements and we also ensure virtual labs are a part of the regular laboratory exposure in association with IIT Madras, Bombay, etc.

Can you describe what is the challenging part of being in an Associate Dean of academics role, and how you successfully manage it?

It is indeed quite challenging to manage with the diverse requirements that arise each day through our student and faculty community to keep up the academic standards of the Institute. But the best part is that there is a scope to learn every day with every single experience which adds up to the pool of solutions which can be refined every now and then to move forward. My philosophy of not accepting failure until we give up is what drives me positively in managing my work pressure.

How often does DIET invite dignitaries from the industry and other organizations for arranging guest speakers sessions and lectures for students?

It is a regular practice. Some of the activities are done through our functional MoUs, Entrepreneurship Development Cell, IQAC, Professional Bodies, Departmental associations, Alumni, Collaborative institutes etc., To channelize these events, we usually set targets to each department to ensure every student gets to participate in invited talks, seminars, conferences, workshops, etc., at least thrice in each semester.

What kind of exposure is given to the students at DIET, especially in extracurricular and outside classroom activities?

Extracurricular activities are thoroughly essential for student all round development. We have student clubs like Music Club, Dance club, sports club, DIET Literary & Cultural Club, DIET Volunteering Club, DIET Women Empowerment Cell, ICC, NSS Units etc., which will have year long activities with various interdisciplinary activities and competitions to bring out the rare talents and leadership qualities among students.

How closely do you engage with students in order to know their inputs and suggestions, and make changes accordingly in the teaching methodologies of the college?

Taking student inputs to refine our teaching methodologies is a continuous process for any successful organization like DIET. We have a 360o feedback mechanism on the ongoing curriculum taken from all the stakeholders at several stages which begins from the class through direct feedback, online feedback, software oriented feedback through ECAP, feedback from mails, Whatsapp groups, personal feedback through strong mentoring, feedback through regular parent teacher meetings, alumni feedback, industry feedback etc., Apart from all these, the random feedback which comes naturally from the heart of our students will give us the best feedback to move forward in making the right changes needed.
