You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

I am a strong believer in constant learning and having to upskill for current trends. Teaching and research are my passions. Since finishing my PhD in the 90’s I’ve been associated with the education sector. As an educator, I don’t just teach students; I also must keep upskilling and learn the current trends. All of these together contribute to my passion for academia.

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

We encourage our students to go abroad to pursue higher education. The dream of a successful global career inspires many Indian students to seek international education from some of the most reputed institutions in the world. Acquiring practical skills is as important as acquiring knowledge for becoming a part of the global workforce. It takes a lot of effort, determination, and sheer will to obtain the prowess to work at such a level. The students who choose to go overseas for their higher education have a different mindset; accordingly, we identify such students and motivate them to adopt a practical approach towards learning and decision making.

How does the curriculum of BVC Engineering College ensure the best practice of industry?

The college engages in industrial visits to acquaint the students with practical and basic engineering knowledge every year. We do so in order to provide a learning environment in which all students are challenged to develop their intellectual, practical and social skills. Our aim is to provide this experience to them in a holistic way by focusing on leadership, socially responsible behavior and lifelong learning.

What do you think should be the Institute's top priority over the next 5 years?

Over the next five years, we will seek to establish new partnerships and enrich existing collaborations to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Over the next five years, every aspect of higher education is being reorganised and remodelled: funding, leadership and management, quality assurance, etc. would be our top priorities.

What do you see as your institute's greatest strengths?

We have a team of well-trained, research oriented, experienced, dedicated and energetic teaching faculty. They are highly experienced and many are actively engaged in research. The college has excellent extra-curricular activities, a sports culture, well-organized extension, community service programs and outreach activities by students and faculty. Our students, too, are one of our biggest strengths.

What would you like people to know about your college they may not know?

We used to tell parents and students that, when it comes to making decisions about their future, there are a lot of factors to consider. One of the most important decisions you will ever make is whether to go to a college that can offer a bundle of opportunities and show you pathways to reach your destination. They soon realize that their decision is correct, and their choice is right. Though situated in a rural area we are an excellent choice when compared with other city-based colleges in terms of infrastructure and placements.

Any message you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

Believe in yourself and in your ability to succeed. Try to be your best self, not just in college but in all areas of your life. Stay focused on your goals and don't let distractions get in the way. Celebrate your victories, big or small.
