What do you see as the college's greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?
The college's greatest strengths lie in its prestigious accreditations from both the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). These accreditations demonstrate the college's commitment to maintaining high standards of education, infrastructure, and overall academic excellence. Another significant strength is the presence of highly experienced, educated, and talented faculty members. The expertise and dedication of the faculty contribute to the overall academic environment of the college. Their knowledge and teaching skills enrich the learning experience of students and provide them with valuable insights and guidance throughout their educational journey.
Moreover, the introduction of a Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme this year adds to the college's strengths. This expansion into the realm of management education reflects the college's ability to adapt and cater to the evolving demands of the job market and students' aspirations. Additionally, the college's commitment to exploring emerging areas in technology is another notable strength. The college's decision to offer emerging areas of B.Tech. right from its inception showcases a forward-thinking approach. By providing courses in cutting-edge and emerging technologies, the college stays relevant and prepares students for the demands of the rapidly evolving job market.
The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what is difference that you see when we compare them?
The education systems in India and other foreign countries exhibit significant differences in their structures and approaches. One of the key distinctions lies in the curriculum design. In India, the curriculum design can be influenced by traditional approaches and academic theories, which may not always directly translate to practical skills demanded by industries. As a result, graduates may face challenges in transitioning smoothly from the academic environment to the workplace. The education system might prioritize theoretical knowledge over hands-on experience and industry-specific skills, leading to a potential mismatch between the skills possessed by graduates and the skills required by employers.
On the other hand, many foreign countries have a more industry-oriented curriculum. Educational institutions collaborate closely with industries to understand their workforce requirements, technological advancements, and emerging trends. As a result, the curriculum is designed to equip students with the relevant skills and knowledge needed to meet the demands of the job market effectively. The difference in curriculum design also impacts the overall learning experience and teaching methods. In foreign countries, there is often an emphasis on interactive and experiential learning, where students actively participate in discussions, problem-solving activities, and projects. In contrast, the education system in India has traditionally focused on rote learning and examination-oriented assessments, which may not necessarily encourage independent thinking or innovation.
How does the curriculum of the college ensure the best practice of industry?
The college's current curriculum, which is designed by the university, may not fully ensure the best practices of the industry. The curriculum being the same for all universities might not adequately cater to the specific needs and demands of different industries. As a result, students may receive a purely theoretical-based education, lacking practical skills and industry-specific knowledge that are vital for their future careers.
To bridge this gap and align the curriculum with industry needs, it is essential to establish strong collaborations between industry and academia. Industry-academy partnerships can offer valuable insights into the latest trends, technologies, and skill requirements in the job market. In this context, the university plays a crucial role in taking proactive measures to ensure the curriculum's relevance and responsiveness to industry demands. The university should actively engage with industry experts, employers, and alumni to gather feedback and insights on the skills and competencies needed in the job market.
Any insights into how the college is welcoming to students of different economic backgrounds?
The college offers scholarships to students based on both their merits and their performance in the entrance qualifications. This means that students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements and exceptional skills may be eligible for scholarships. Additionally, those who perform well in the entrance examinations may also qualify for financial assistance.
What do you think should be the College’s top priority over the next 10 years?
The college's top priority over the next ten years should be to achieve NBA (National Board of Accreditation) accreditation for all its branches. While the college has already obtained accreditation from both the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) and the NBA, it is essential to extend the NBA accreditation to all departments and branches within the institution. Additionally, the college needs to focus on the implementation of the MEP (Modified Environment Program) to move towards autonomy. The concept of autonomy implies that the college can enjoy more freedom in designing its curriculum, making administrative decisions, and enhancing academic programmes to meet the changing needs of students and industries. The journey towards autonomy is crucial, as it empowers the college to respond more effectively to the evolving demands of education and align its programmes with industry best practises.
How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?
Establishing healthy relationships with students and fellow faculty is a top priority for us. We maintain a friendly and approachable demeanor towards both students and our colleagues, fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding. We encourage open communication and ensure that students and faculty feel comfortable approaching us with any concerns or queries they may have. Our willingness to help without hesitation demonstrates our commitment to the well-being and academic success of everyone within the college community.
As faculty members, we see ourselves as mentors and role models, striving to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. By being accessible and supportive, we aim to build trust and rapport with our students, encouraging them to seek guidance, share their ideas, and participate actively in their academic journey. Similarly, by maintaining an open and respectful approach in our interactions with colleagues, we foster a supportive and harmonious work environment, where ideas are shared freely, and constructive feedback is encouraged.
How does the college enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to the industry standards?
The college places a strong emphasis on enhancing the skills of its faculty and preparing them according to industry standards through various development programs. Faculty members are encouraged to take advantage of several opportunities, including faculty courses, online courses, and in-depth courses, to continuously improve their knowledge and expertise. The college recognises the importance of staying updated with the latest advancements and trends in their respective fields. Therefore, faculty members are motivated to participate in online courses, which provide a convenient and flexible way to gain new insights and skills.
Moreover, the college supports faculty members who are willing to attend startup programs and startup development programs. By actively engaging in these skill-enhancing opportunities, the faculty can develop their expertise in specific areas, ensuring that they are well-prepared to deliver quality education that aligns with industry standards.
What valuable advice would you like to give the current youth and the aspiring students?
The valuable advice for current youth and aspiring students is to adopt a proactive and dynamic approach to their education and career path. The main motto is to play various roles, engage in continuous learning, and create knowledge in their chosen fields. It is crucial for them to understand the needs of the industry and explore job prospects in their respective domains.
Instead of solely focusing on academic achievements, students should actively seek to gain practical skills and industry-specific knowledge. This means keeping themselves updated with the latest developments, emerging technologies, and trends relevant to their field of interest. I want to emphasize the importance of aligning educational pursuits with the needs of the industry and employment opportunities. By being proactive in understanding the industry's requirements, students can tailor their education and training to match the skills and competencies sought after by employers.
