Dr. Veeranki Srinivasa Rao is the Head of the EEE Department at Aditya Engineering College. He holds a Ph.D. degree from JNTUK, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. He has total 21 years of experience in the teaching field. He has published 20 papers in national and international journals.

Being a HOD of EEE Dept., what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?
My roles and responsibilities as HOD towards the students are to interact with students (Section-wise) of their branch 15 days once, identify the problems and find solutions in consultation with the Principal, verify the student attendance registers maintained by the staff members once a week and submit to the Principal for verification once in a fortnight, to instruct the respective class advisors to implement the dress code among the students, to collect the student feedback about the faculty members subject-wise (for all the subjects taught to the students of their branch) and communicate the feedback to the concerned faculty members in the standard format as finalized by the Principal. Communicate a copy to the Principal.
How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?
The practical work approach highlights the dynamic nature of teaching and learning mathematics. This dynamism advocates the teachers as facilitators of learners’ active construction. The students’ ideas are elicited and discussed.
How do you strategize the curriculum and how often does it get updated to make it beneficial for the students?
We strategize the curriculum by identifying resources, developing experiences that meet objectives, collecting and devising materials, and developing plans, methods, and processes.
What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department or how does your department prepare students for higher education?
Selecting the right college that will fulfill your career aspirations is one of the most important decisions youngsters have to make. The decision is crucial as their future depends on this. Is it a good college? What are the academic rankings? Is the college rich in infrastructure? Does it offer promising placements, etc. are among the few questions that come to mind before initiating the hunt for the right college/university. Among all the questions, the one prominent question is about placements. Not just students, but even their families are concerned about the result and are confused and desperate to find the right college for their children. Every student undergoes the same struggle in choosing a college that promises good placements by the time they complete their course.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?
Students’ lives are not restricted to textbook definitions and physics formulae to remember. Outer knowledge and wisdom are equally important. Non-academic learning helps students in knowing what is happening in the outside world. The extra-curricular activities of any genre give a helping hand to students’ inquisitive minds and support them in exploring the world outside their textbooks.
What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education in your department?
One of the main challenges facing the education system in India is unequal access to education. Despite the country’s rapid economic growth and increasing prosperity, many rural and underprivileged communities still lack access to quality education. This inequality is reflected in the low literacy rates in these areas, as well as in the high dropout rates for students from these communities. Another challenge facing the education system in India is outdated curricula. In many cases, the curricula used in schools and colleges are not in line with the latest developments in technology and society. This can result in students being ill-prepared for the demands of the modern workplace and can limit their future career prospects.
When you came to college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?
My vision was to be a model student, engaged in my school, community, and family with a reputation for high performance and excellence. I wanted to become a well-known and capable engineer who solves challenging problems in the field of nuclear energy.
