Dr. P. Satish Kumar is the Head of the Department of ECE at ACE Engineering College. He holds a B.Tech. in ECE and an M.Tech. in Communication Systems from Pondicherry Central University. Thereafter, he earned a PhD in ECE from JNTUH as well. With over 50 papers published, his work can be found in reputed national and international journals and conferences.

Dr. Kumar has guided three PhD scholars, Ten M.Tech. and 50 B.Tech. students with their theses and projects. He holds memberships in MISTE, MIETE and MNAFEN. Besides his responsibilities, he is the PhD thesis evaluator for Anna University. He has received over INR 8 lakhs in AICTE grants for his work as a coordinator for different faculty development program and short-term training program.

With 31 years of experience in teaching and research, what inspired you to pursue a career in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering, and how has your work evolved over the years?

My journey in Electronics and Communication Engineering began with a deep fascination for the way technology connects and communicates. The dynamic nature of the field, its constant evolution, and the potential to contribute to society through innovation drew me in. Over the past 31 years, my work has evolved in sync with the rapid advancements in technology. From the foundational principles of electronic devices and circuits to cutting-edge research, I've been privileged to witness and contribute to the transformative journey of this field.


You have taught a wide range of subjects, from electronic devices and circuits to VLSI/Embedded Systems. How do you adapt your teaching style to suit the needs of different students and subjects?

Adapting my teaching style is crucial to ensure that every student can grasp the subject matter effectively. Understanding the diverse learning styles within a classroom is essential. For more theoretical subjects like electronic devices and circuits, I emphasise clear conceptual explanations, while for subjects like VLSI, hands-on exercises and real-world applications are integrated. Flexibility is key, and I encourage an open dialogue with students to address their individual needs and preferences.


As a member of professional bodies such as MISTE, MIETE, and MNAFEN, how do these affiliations contribute to your professional growth and the enhancement of the department's academic environment?

Being a part of professional bodies provides a platform for continuous learning and networking. Can you explain us about the infrastructural facilities available with respect to ECE department at ACE Engineering College?

In terms of infrastructural facilities, ACE Engineering College is equipped with state-of-the-art labs, modern classrooms, and dedicated spaces for collaborative work. Specifically, for the ECE department, we have specialised labs like sensors and devices, IOT, Electronic Circuit Design Lab, and HFSS Lab with high-performance computing systems and advanced software tools. Being HOD, what strategies do you use to motivate and engage your students, and how do you ensure that they are well-prepared for their future careers?

Motivating and engaging students is at the core of my role. I employ a combination of interactive teaching methods, mentorship programs, and regular feedback sessions. We also organize seminars, webinars, and industry interactions to expose students to real-world scenarios. Additionally, career counseling and guidance are integral parts of our curriculum, ensuring that students are not only academically proficient but also equipped with the skills and confidence needed for successful careers in Electronics and Communication Engineering.
