The B.S. Abdur Rahman University has highlighted its online entrance exam and interview phase for the January 2026 PhD intake.

The University has opened applications for the PhD January 2026 session, with the selection process centred on the online entrance exam scheduled for December 12 and the online interview set for December 15.
These stages will assess applicants’ subject knowledge and research preparedness before the allocation of supervisors. Candidates applying for full-time or part-time programmes must review the exam pattern and requirements carefully as these components form the core of the admission process.

According to the brochure, candidates must have a postgraduate degree with at least 55% marks to be considered. Those who have qualified UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, GATE, CEED or similar national-level exams are exempted from the written test. NRI and foreign nationals can apply only for the full-time PhD programme.
The admission test consists of 100 multiple-choice questions divided into 50 subject-specific and 50 research-methodology questions, with a duration of two hours. There is no negative marking. The interview requires candidates to present a 15-minute PPT on their proposed research topic. Both stages will be conducted online as per the schedule.
Selection Process
The university follows a structured, multi-stage selection process that begins with verification of eligibility at the department level. After this, shortlisted candidates receive notifications for the online entrance exam and interview.
Those who successfully clear both stages are then considered for the allocation of research supervisors based on their proposed research area. Once the evaluation is complete, the university publishes the results and issues admission letters to the selected candidates. The final steps include certificate verification, fee payment, and completing provisional registration for the PhD programme.
The fee structure includes tuition fee of ₹25,000 per semester, a one-time ₹500 admission fee, and a refundable ₹5,000 caution deposit. Full-time scholars may receive Junior or Senior Research Fellowships, which range from ₹12,000 to ₹20,000 depending on the discipline.
