New Delhi: Bangalore University (BU) has become the first public university in Karnataka state to receive a CGPA of 3.75 out of 4 points, and an A++ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The accreditation was given on June 10, 2023 (Saturday).
As per Bangalore University, this accreditation is a result of the university’s academic excellence and achievements. BU has taken many initiatives for academics and infrastructure in the last five years to secure its place among the top universities in the state.
The university has received a 3.16 CGPA and an A grade from NAAC in the past two years. As of now, there are very few public universities in the country which have secured an A++ grade and with this achievement, BU has become the first university in the state to achieve the ranks.
Speaking on this occasion, Jayakara SM, Vice-Chancellor, Bangalore University said, “The university performed extremely well in the NAAC-specified criteria, such as curricular aspects, teaching, learning and evaluation, research, innovations and extension.
“In addition to this, it has shown excellent results in infrastructure and learning resources, student support and progression, governance leadership and management, institutional values, and best practices”, he further added.
The NAAC team visited the university campus from May 17 to May 19, 2023 to evaluate the qualitative metrics and facilities available. This rating is expected to increase the visibility of the university as well as its employability ratio.
Some of the initiatives taken by BU include a digital evaluation system, the introduction of new UG and PG courses, over 10 publications from each faculty, the highest research funding, many consultancy projects, a high citation index and a good number of patents.
Additionally, the university has secured the highest support for students from marginalised communities, biodiversity conservation, and the contribution of alumni in various activities to achieve a higher level of academic excellence.
BU officials said, “With an A++ grade, the university attained autonomy to set up off-campuses within the country and overseas, hybrid and online courses, applying for Institutions of eminence, student exchange programmes, increased international tie-up or collaborations for research activities, and increased funding possibilities from different agencies”.
