AIIMS Delhi Inks Pact With IREDA Aimed at Powering Hospital Campus by Solar Energy

New Delhi: AIIMS Delhi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) on August 1, 2023, to start the technical evaluation of its campus in preparation for its conversion to a solar-powered campus.

To achieve this goal, IREDA will evaluate the AIIMS Delhi campus from a technological and commercial standpoint. The evaluation described in MoU entails developing financial models, carrying out pre-feasibility studies, drafting a detailed project report (DPR), helping to analyse the technical and business aspects of project development, concluding commercial and contractual arrangements, and defining performance indicators.

With the assistance of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited, AIIMS Delhi hopes to considerably lower its electricity costs by entering into this cooperation and putting solar power projects into place.

Shri Pradip Kumar Das, Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), IREDA, and Dr M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, signed the MoU at AIIMS in New Delhi in the presence of senior representatives from both organisations.

On this occasion, the Director of AIIMS and the CMD of IREDA dedicated a 9 Kilowatt Rooftop Solar plant at the AIIMS campus in New Delhi on August 1, 2023.

The Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Chemicals & Fertilisers, Shri Bhagwanth Khuba, sent his congratulations and best wishes for the MoU signing and solar plant inauguration event even though he was unable to attend in person.

Speaking on this collaboration, the CMD of IREDA said, "We are pleased to be connected with AIIMS, combining our expertise in renewable energy with the medical institution's dedication to a sustainable future. This collaborative effort, which we hope will serve as a role model for other institutions around the nation, highlights the growing significance of implementing clean and sustainable practices”.

“Through the use of clean energy solutions, we can work together to improve the environment for the coming generations while generating financial savings. This important project at AIIMS has the ability to raise public awareness across the nation about the value of renewable energy and decarbonization”, he further added.
