Class 10 Mathematics Chapter 15 Probability – Important Topics

The three types of probabilities are theoretical probability, experimental probability, and axiomatic probability. The theoretical probability calculates the probability based on formulas and input values. The experimental probability gives a realistic value and is based on the experimental values for calculation. Quite often the theoretical and experimental probability differ in their results and the axiomatic probability is based on the axioms which govern the concepts of probability.

Formula for Probability:

P(E) = n(E) / n(S)

Formula for Theoretical Probability:

P(E) = Number of Favourable Outcomes / Number of Total Outcomes

Formula for Experimental Probability:

P(E) = Number of Favourable Outcomes / Total number of times experiment is done

Rules of Probability:

  • Probability of an impossible event is null.
  • Maximum Probability of any event can be its total number of possible outcomes.
  • Probability exists between 0 and 1. The probability can be zero also.
  • Probability cannot be negative.
  • Probability of A or Probability of B is addition of probability of A and the probability of B.
