HPCET 2026: Result Out at himtu.ac.in, Counselling, Cutoff and Seat Allotment

The HPCET 2026 (Himachal Pradesh Common Entrance Test) is a state-level entrance exam conducted by Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU), Hamirpur for admission to B.Tech, B.Pharmacy, MCA, MBA, MBA (T&HM), BHMCT and M.Sc programmes at HPTU and its affiliated colleges. The exam was held on 9 and 10 May 2026 in offline mode across centres in Himachal Pradesh. The latest update is that the HPCET 2026 result has been declared on 21 May 2026 on the official portal himtu.ac.in, and the counselling process is set to begin in the second week of June 2026.

• Counselling: HPCET 2026 counselling registration is expected to start in the second week of June 2026. Last year, the counselling window opened around the third week of June 2025.
• Round 1 Seat Allotment: The Round 1 seat allotment result will be released in the first week of July 2026 on himtu.ac.in. In 2025, Round 1 results were announced in the first week of July.
• Cutoff: The qualifying cutoff is 25% (150 out of 600) for General/OBC and 20% (120 out of 600) for SC/ST/PwD. Programme-wise closing ranks will be released after each counselling round.
• Document Verification: Document verification at the allotted college will begin after Round 1 allotment in July 2026. You should keep originals of Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, rank card and category certificates ready.

What is HPCET 2026?

The HPCET 2026 is the Himachal Pradesh Common Entrance Test conducted by Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU), Hamirpur. It is a state-level entrance exam for admission to professional courses offered by HPTU and its affiliated colleges for the academic session 2026-27. The exam was held on 9 and 10 May 2026 in offline (pen and paper) mode.

HPCET is a single-window entrance for multiple programme levels. You can use the same exam to apply for undergraduate, postgraduate and lateral-entry courses across the state. This makes it one of the most important state-level entrance tests in Himachal Pradesh for technical education.

The exam is held in two sessions on two days. B.Sc. (HM&CT)/BHMCT and M.Sc. Environmental Sciences were conducted on 9 May 2026. B.Tech, B.Pharmacy, MCA, MBA, MBA (T&HM) and M.Sc. (Physics) papers were held on 10 May 2026.

HPCET 2026 Important Dates

HPCET 2026 Answer Key

The HPCET 2026 answer key was released in two stages. The provisional answer key was published on 12 May 2026, two days after the exam. You can use it to calculate your expected score before the result.

The official window for objections was open for 48 hours after the provisional answer key release. You had to pay Rs. 200 per question to challenge an answer. The final answer key was released on 19 May 2026 after considering the objections raised by candidates.

Here is how to calculate your HPCET score using the answer key:

• Count the number of correct answers and multiply by 4
• Count the number of incorrect answers and multiply by 1
• Subtract the incorrect total from the correct total
• Unattempted questions carry no marks

The final answer key is binding and was used to prepare the result. If your objection was accepted, the revised key applied to all candidates uniformly.

HPCET 2026 Seat Allotment

The HPCET 2026 seat allotment will be done online by HPTU on the basis of merit, category, choice filling, and seat availability. The Round 1 seat allotment result is expected in the first week of July 2026.

If you are allotted a seat in Round 1, you have three options:

• Freeze: Accept the seat and exit further counselling rounds
• Float: Accept the seat but stay in further rounds for a possible upgrade
• Slide: Accept the seat and stay in further rounds for a better branch in the same college

HPCET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

The HPCET 2026 eligibility criteria differ by course. You should check the requirements for your target programme carefully before applying. There is no upper age limit for HPCET 2026.

Course-wise Eligibility

Final-year appearing candidates are also eligible, provided they submit proof of passing the qualifying exam at the time of admission. If you fail to clear the qualifying exam before admission, the seat will be cancelled.

HPCET 2026 Application Process

The HPCET 2026 application process was conducted online from 13 March to 19 April 2026 on himtu.ac.in. The application window is now closed. The fee was Rs. 1,500 for the General category and Rs. 750 for women and reserved category candidates.

How to Apply for HPCET 2026

• Registration: Visit himtu.ac.in, click on HPCET 2026, register with name, email and mobile number
• Application Form: Fill in personal, academic, and contact details
• Course Selection: Choose the course(s) you wish to appear for
• Document Upload: Upload scanned photograph, signature and Class 10 certificate in the prescribed format
• Fee Payment: Pay the application fee online through net banking, credit card, debit card or UPI
• Confirmation: Download the confirmation page and keep a printout for future reference

HPCET 2026 Application Fee

The application fee is non-refundable. If you applied for multiple courses, you had to pay the fee separately for each course.

HPCET 2026 Admit Card

The HPCET 2026 admit card was released by HPTU in the first week of May 2026 on himtu.ac.in. The admit card was mandatory to enter the exam centre. Without a valid admit card, you were not allowed to appear for the exam.

The admit card contained:

• Candidate’s name, photograph and signature
• Roll number and application number
• Course applied for
• Exam date, time and reporting time
• Exam centre name and address
• Important instructions and dos and don’ts

You had to carry a printed copy of the admit card and one valid photo ID (Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID, or passport) to the exam centre. The admit card should be preserved till the counselling and admission process is over.

HPCET 2026 Exam Centres

The HPCET 2026 was conducted across multiple cities in Himachal Pradesh. The exam centres were assigned by HPTU based on candidates’ preferences during the application stage.

The centre allotment was final and could not be changed after the admit card was released. You had to reach the exam centre at least 60 minutes before the reporting time to complete the security and document checks.

Admission to these colleges is finalised through HPTU’s centralised counselling. You can also apply to private universities through their direct admission processes, but the HPCET score is the simplest way to secure a seat in the constituent and government colleges.

HPCET 2026 Preparation Tips

HPCET 2026 preparation is similar to JEE Main preparation but at a slightly lower difficulty level. Since the paper is offline and has negative marking, you need a sharp focus on accuracy. Here are some preparation tips to help you score well.

• Stick to NCERT: The HPCET syllabus follows the NCERT pattern. Master the NCERT textbooks for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics first
• Solve Previous Year Papers: Past 5 years’ HPCET question papers give you a clear idea of the difficulty and pattern
• Make a Timetable: Split your day across all three subjects. Do not neglect any one subject
• Time Management: Practice solving 150 questions in 3 hours 15 minutes. Aim for 50 minutes per subject and 15 minutes for revision
• Mock Tests: Take at least 15-20 full-length mock tests in the last two months. This builds exam stamina
• Avoid Negative Marking: Attempt only those questions you are confident about. Skip the questions you do not know
• Revision Notes: Make short notes for formulas, reactions, and shortcuts. Revise them weekly
• Mental Health: Sleep well, take breaks, and do not panic on exam day

If you start preparation 6 months before the exam, you can comfortably cover the syllabus. With 3 months of focused study, you should target full NCERT coverage and at least 10 mock tests.
