Remarks

Ranking and the MBA degree were the biggest factors that resulted in me choosing this institute. The campus was a huge addition, however the pandemic ruined it all. The pandemic has changed the game and insensitivity to the larger environment is a large issue here like any other college. However, mental health is recognised pretty well and there are processes to access experts to help you out. Quora and my peers helped me choose this massively. Moreover, the fact that SIMC guarantees a decent bourgeoisie life is incentive enough.

Placement Experience

Really worried about the placement scenario. Got a good internship at JioSaavn. Looking forward to working there, even though it'll be virtual. The Placement Cell exists to bring in companies till the time the last student is placed, and they do the best they can in that. More power and respect to the Placement Cell to do this in such a situation. However, if the pandemic continues, do not expect too many high paying options your way. The start is going to be very bumpy, but you'll have a start for sure.

Campus Life

The campus boasts of one of the most beautiful campuses in the country - scenic, hill-top and away from the main city. You can well imagine the Campus life. Life on the hills is pretty amazing with the folks around who become friends and family for the 2 years. One of the key features about Symbiosis is it's diversity. The gender ratio is well-balanced, and students are from different states, different walks of life, there are good amount of freshers as well as experienced ones. There are different cells and clubs that take care of each aspect of the extra-curricular activities, taking place all year round. There are fests, campus events, sports activities, competitions and seminars, conferences and a lot more keep on happening throughout the year, providing a plethora of opportunities for one to explore, learn and showcase his/her potential on a platform that one cannot miss to notice. The learning experience outside the classroom is even bigger than what it is inside.

Course Curriculum Overview

Course curriculum is diverse in the 1st semester with some interesting subjects and becomes more streamlined and industry-focused as per student's specialization in the 2nd year. The exam structure is semester-wise (4 semesters, 2 semesters in one year each) along with internal tests and engaging assignments, of-course. Students can also opt for virtual internships or live projects from the companies. There's a dedicated committee that works towards providing such opportunities. There are guest lectures where the speakers are invited from the industry.

Course Curriculum Overview

Campus Life

Every extracurricular activity is well organized and supported by faculty and alumni members. From labs, workshops to college functions, cultural festivals and student parties, everything is noticed here. The gender ratio is also equal.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees here is really high. This is not a at all affordable. The yearly fees ranges from Rs 5 -7 lakh, including tuition fees and hostel charges. Fees from the next year is a bit less. You can arrange for loans from banks.

The course fees for both years of the college costs 4,95,000 each year. This makes it a total expenditure of 9,90,000 for the whole 2 year degree. This is quite expensive but also reasonable as the facilities provided by the college are really good.

Admission

The college accepts admission on the basis of their entrance examination SNAP and further GD-PI rounds conducted by the college. The college requires the candidate to have a bachelors or graduation with an aggregate of 50%..

College Events

Our college actively pushed students to maintain a healthy balance between academics and extracurricular activities. We participated in various activities like tree plantation, yoga day, photography competitions, etc. Sports day was celebrated once every year, and it was the most fun. I participated in the college volleyball team which won the silver medal at the annual sports day.

Admission

I appeared for the SNAP entrance exam which is a management level entrance exam organized by the symbiosis group. My admission was done on the basis of merit. I applied for the MBA program through online mode, uploaded all the relevant documents, along with my exam scores and waited for the merit list. Overall, it was a pretty smooth process.

Campus Life

The campus location away from the city makes it so and student population of almost 2000 from 3 colleges on a hill top makes an outsider even more interested. Students coming from all over the country from best of the institutes of undergrad courses makes it a very cosmopolitan and diverse pool of people across ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation etc. Gender ratio was skewed towards higher number of women in SIMC. Could say 60-40 situation. There were many activity clubs, so there was always something happening. The infrastructure is very good.

Course Curriculum Overview

Curriculum is vast covering all major components of the media industry. 1st semester covers all 4 specialization subjects of Journalism, AV production, advertising & PR so that every student is aware of all basic concepts and a bigger picture understanding of the media industry. Post 2nd semester, individual specializations takes precedence. Focus is on conceptual aspects as well as case study learning, projects, assignments, internships, media festivals, industry interface etc.

Campus Life

Campus life is the best phase of any student's life. Apart from the academic goals that every student aspires to achieve in a competitive post-graduate school, it is important NOT to miss out on the process of reaching there. At SIMC, the gender ratio is almost 1:1 (boys: girls). The interaction that happens during class projects, assignments is more on academic level. However for cultural events, sports there is different interaction that builds bonds of friendship and at times last for a life-time. SIMC being a part of Symbiosis International University, there are students from all over India and also some from South East Asian countries. I recall interacting with a few Indonesian students and one thing that I learnt from them was my badminton skills. There is a huge diversity on campus and hence you get introduced to various aspects of different cultures. The campus has the best sports facilities (squash courts, basketball courts, badminton courts, swimming pool, health club, gymnasium, football and cricket grounds). There are inter-batch sports and cultural competitions. The best experience was the SPL (Symbiosis Premier League) which was a cricket tournament on the lines of IPL where students actually buy players and make teams.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course curriculum is a good blend of theory as well as practical hands-on the industry. Modules like Creative Planning, Account Management, Event Management actually gave us a experience of how a client pitch is made (mock-pitch) sessions. My forte being Visual Communication (Photography & Design), I learnt how to sustain a creative interest as a profession and how to advertise and market myself to the potential clients.
