Ques. Which is better, EE at DTU or ICE at NSIT?

Ans. There is no better branch between EE at DTU and ICE at NSIT. It's all about preferences and inclinations. To help you make an informed decision let's talk about both the branches individually EE at DTU EE at DTU is core electrical engineering wherein you are taught concepts related to power, grids, electrical machines, etc.  For placements, core companies like BHEL and companies in the energy field visit the campus.  ICE at NSIT This branch has Control Engineering concepts along with electrical, electronics, and computer engineering.ICE has very light coursework and it's easy to maintain a good CGPA.  You also get enough time for your passions and extracurriculars. IT giants like Facebook, Google, etc. Don't allow ICE students to sit for placements.  Core companies that recruit students of this branch include Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and others.  Non-tech companies like BCG, Bain, and JPMC allow all students to sit for placements. NSIT has a larger batch size and thus the competition here is less than DTU for placements but it still it cannot match the brand value of DTU. In all, both DTU and NSIT have similar opportunities and placements so with the right mindset you can do well at both colleges. Read more

My brother is a recent graduate of Instrumentation and Control Engineering at NIT Trichy, so let me share some facts about its overall performance.  There are some pros and cons of the department which include: Pros: Vibration control research in ICE at Nit Trichy is really good. Robotics, Control, and Electronics are also good for pursuing your graduate studies. Career/ Job aspects across a variety of profiles are accessible for ICE graduates in campus placements. Seniors help a lot with academics. You will be trained to work under pressure. Classrooms are neat and have a great environment. No uniform is required for entering the labs. Categories ICE at NIT Trichy Course Fee 5.65 lakh Placement Percentage 80-90% Highest CTC 20 LPA Average CTC 12 LPA Recruiting Companies Tech Mahindra, TCS, Texas Instruments, JP Morgan, etc. Cons: There are only 11 faculties in the department out of which only two faculties teach properly.  Labs are not up-to-the-mark. Most of the electronics components don’t work properly. The guidance is inadequate. Assignments provide little help. Due to continuous fests in the college, it might be difficult to concentrate on your studies. Like every college, there should be 4 classes per week, but here in ICE, the faculty members tend to keep 6-8 classes per week with students attending the classes just for the attendance. Subjects like PDD, Engineering Mechanics, and Analytical Instrumentation are taken for granted.  If you are really interested in Instrumentation, only then you should join this department. Otherwise, join some other branch in NIT T so that you are able to learn something.Read more

Ans. NIT Trichy placements are good for Instrumentation & Control Engineering. Microsoft, P&G, Reliance Industries, etc. are some of the major recruiters that take part in the placement drive. Ans. ICE at NIT Jalandhar is one of the most reputed branches in the terms of placements as well as in the aspect of GATE. I have a friend in the 2018 ICE batch at NIT Jalandhar. In 2018, the GATE IN topper was from the ICE branch at NIT Jalandhar. Also, nine students of ICE were Under 100 in GATE 2018. Faculty: The faculties are very good, supportive, and dedicated. Campus life: The campus life is very happening. Various cultural and technical events are being organized for the students. If interested you can join the Robotics club and DAKSH (Solar car manufacturing team). The labs and lecture halls are air-conditioned and well equipped with smart boards and other facilities. Placements: According to the recent highlights, the placement statistics of the institute are as follows. Thus, here is a detailed breakdown of every aspect you should know about NIT Trichy.  Instrumentation and Control Engineering (ICE) at NIT Trichy -  The placement ratio of the branch is really high.  Students can have multiple opportunities in both circuital and non-circuital engineering fields.  The faculty of NIT Trichy is extremely cooperative and helpful for students pursuing their higher education. Moreover, there is a lesser number of credits, unlike many other departments, helping students have free time. Thus, it can lead students to pursue their hobbies, alongside education. Ans. I know a little bit about ISI Kolkata since I have a few friends from the institute. Here is what you should know about the internships between semesters.  The course curriculum specifies that in the summer after completing your first year of M.Tech, you have to do an internship either in the industry or academia. You will have 3 options.  Industry: Many companies that visit the Campus for placements of 2nd-year students also select interns for the same. Some of such companies are Samsung Research Labs, Google, General Electric, Reliance, Flipkart, De Shaw, JP Morgan Chase, etc. The average stipend offered last year was 65,000 rupees/month. Some companies offer more than 1 lakh/month. One of my friends interned at Samsung Research Labs. Academia: As per ISI guidelines, you need to pursue an internship at a different academic Institute or industry. A friend of mine went to NUS Singapore, while two others went to a university in Germany. You can also apply to other institutes in Japan, USA, and Europe. People also go to IITs, CMI, and other Tier-1 Institutes of India. Within ISI: If for some reason you could not get an internship in the above-mentioned ways, you can approach any of the 250+ faculty members across all 5 ISI‘s and can ask to work with them in their labs. You will have internships at the end of the first year. In the second year, you will have placements, dissertation, academics. So, the only time left to do an additional internship is the winter break after the first sem. Unless you are extremely enthusiastic, I will suggest that you take a break during this period. Because after the break you will be swamped with coursework for 1.5 years.Read more

Ans. The answer would be Yes. One of my friends had completed B.Tech in Instrumentation and Control Engineering from NIT Trichy. The course is definitely tough but the level of difficulty perceived may differ from person to person. And here is some of the information about the course. Sheer multi-disciplinary nature of subjects : In the very same semester, the candidate will have to study a varied range of subjects such as Fluid mechanics, Material sciences and Circuit theory.  All of these subjects require a good knowledge about modeling in different areas of Physics as it is one of the most essential skills of an Instrument designer. Involvement in Laboratory activities : Practical knowledge is very important.  Most of the lab exercises are worked in a team.  Thus to complete any task starting from designing, experiment and analysis within a particular given time is a bit of a challenge.  It is important for all the team members to work efficiently for the task to be completed. Programming and Analytical skills :  It is important to have a good hold on C/C++ programming to understand subjects such as Data structures/Algo, Embedded systems, Control systems design. Product design and Development : The candidate needs to come with new project ideas and develop it from scratch and make it an Industrial prototype.  This will require a lot of outdoor work, market surveys, meeting suppliers and customer feedback.  Teamwork is very important for such activities. Design specification : Right from the lab exercises, most of the projects and products the candidate needs to work on have a clear Design Specification.  It is important to adhere to those specifications as it demands sincere and laborious efforts from the candidate which might be tough.  The faculty or project guide may also make things tougher. Ques. Which one is better - Thapar University (EIC) or JIIT Noida (CSE)?

Ans. Thapar University in all aspects is a lot better than JIIT. But I am not quite aware of the EIC branch. You can interact with ex-students of the institute online, to get a better idea about the course. If you think it will be a better choice, go for it. According to placements, Thapar is much better than JIIT Noida. Most of the companies that participate in Thapar’s placement program are well reputed like Microsoft, Infosys, and many more. Thapar provides a better industrial exposure to their students. After graduating from Thapar you can opt for both government and private sectors. Categories  EIC at Thapar University CSE at JIIT Noida Course Fee 13.23 lakh 9.22 lakh Highest CTC 18 LPA 12-16 LPA Average CTC 6 LPA 4-5 LPA Recruiting Companies TCS, Tech Mahindra, Phillips, L&T, etc. Amazon, Adobe, Morgan Stanley, ZS Associates, etc. Thapar University will be a much better choice than JIIT, as it is popular among students and professionals as well.
