The PhD course at CIMAP, Lucknow is offered in 6 different specializations in the streams of Biological, Agricultural and Chemical Sciences.
The course is offered under the affiliation of JNU, New Delhi and is UGC approved.

Candidates should have a M.Sc degree in any discipline from Life Sciences/ Agriculture/ Botany/ Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biomedical Sciences/ Biochemistry/ Plant Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/ Molecular Biology/ Bioinformatics.
Candidates must have scored a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
A relaxation of 5% in final aggregate scores is provided to SC/ST/PH candidates.

CIMAP, Lucknow admits eligible candidates to its PhD courses based on performance in CSIR-UGC NET/ DBT-JRF/ ICMR-NET or any other equivalent exam resulting in JRF/SRF fellowship tenable at CSIR-CIMAP.

Candidates who successfully completed the application process are first shortlisted based on their marks in entrance exam.
Such candidates then need to appear for an interview round at CIMAP, Lucknow.
Final selection list is prepared based on the cumulative performance of candidates in entrance exam and personal interview.

The PhD programme at CIMAP, Lucknow is offered for a minimum duration of 3 years which is further divided into 6 semesters. Each academic year comprises 2 semesters of 6 months duration. Below mentioned are the course details:

The PhD programme is offered in 6 specializations, namely, Plant Biology, Agronomy, Biotechnology, Chemical Sciences, Genetics & Plant Breeding and Crop Protection.
Candidates admitted to the course can carry out advanced research in the area of Biotechnology/ Bioprospection/ Genomics/ Plant Tissue Culture/ Bioinformatics/ Plant Physiology/ Metabolomics/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Botany/ Natural Product/ Synthetic/ Analytical/ Process Chemistry/ Pharmaceutical/ Industrial Chemistry/ Chemical Engineering/ Agronomy/Soil Science/ Agriculture-Microbiology/ Plant Nutrition/ Crop Improvement/ Crop Protection/ Agricultural Economics & Extension/ Environmental Sciences, etc.
The selected candidates will then be required to complete Pre-PhD courses in any one discipline of their interest along with optional courses in the first 2 semesters of the programme.
Candidates need to score OGPA of 6.5/10.0 for general and OBC category and 6.0/10.0 for SC/ST/PH candidates in order to be eligible for registrations at CIMAP JNU PhD scholars.
Mid-Term and End-Term examinatiosn will be conducted in each semester and candidates will be evaluated on the basis of their performance in these examinations along with various other activities.

It was a very physical college and enables the students to become a professional in their research. Rs.50,000 was an approximate fees for the first year including the tuition fee. It didn?t include the accommodation and Transportation. For the resources we had to perform tests on the samples and they were not included in the fee also. No cash was accepted as the fee.
