BSAMCH DNB Otorhinolaryngology FAQs
Ques. Does BSAMCH provide a stipend to DNB Otorhinolaryngology trainees?
Ans. NBEMS does not mandate or directly pay any stipend to DNB trainees. Stipend, if any, is at the discretion of the accredited hospital. BSAMCH is a government hospital under GNCTD; however, DNB trainees are not on the payroll of the hospital in the same way as MD/MS residents at government medical colleges. Candidates should confirm the current stipend policy directly with the BSAMCH administration before joining.
Ques. How many DNB ENT seats are available at BSAMCH, and how competitive is the admission?
Ans. BSAMCH has 2 NBEMS-accredited Post MBBS DNB seats in Otorhinolaryngology. With only 2 seats, admission is highly competitive. Candidates typically need a strong NEET PG rank to secure a seat at a government hospital in Delhi through MCC counselling.
Ques. Is DNB Otorhinolaryngology from BSAMCH equivalent to MS ENT from a government medical college for Senior Residency purposes?
Ans. Yes. As per NMC norms, DNB from a hospital with more than 500 beds (BSAMCH has 540 beds) is treated on par with MS/MD for Senior Residency eligibility at government medical colleges. Candidates need to complete only 1 year of SRship (same as MD/MS holders) before applying for faculty positions.
Ques. What is the surgical exposure like for DNB ENT trainees at BSAMCH?
Ans. BSAMCH is a 540-bed government hospital in Rohini, Delhi, with a busy ENT OPD and operation theatre. Being a government hospital, trainees are expected to get good exposure to a variety of ENT cases including tonsillectomy, septoplasty, FESS, mastoidectomy, tympanoplasty, tracheostomy, and head and neck procedures. The NBEMS log book mandates minimum numbers of procedures to be performed/assisted before appearing for the final examination.
Ques. Can I pursue super-specialisation (DrNB/MCh) after completing DNB Otorhinolaryngology from BSAMCH?
Ans. Yes. After completing DNB Otorhinolaryngology, candidates are eligible to appear for NEET SS (Super Specialty) for DrNB in relevant disciplines such as Head and Neck Surgery, Neurotology, Paediatric ENT, and related fields. DNB ENT is fully recognised for NEET SS eligibility.
Ques. What is the process for the DNB Final Examination, and how difficult is it?
Ans. The DNB Final Examination (FAT - Final Assessment Test) is conducted by NBEMS and consists of a theory examination followed by a clinical/practical examination. The theory exam has 4 papers with structured questions. The practical exam includes OSCEs, long cases, and viva voce, conducted at an NBEMS-designated centre (which may be in a different city). The exam is known for its rigour and objectivity, as there are no internal examiners and no internal assessment marks. Candidates must maintain their log book and submit their thesis before appearing for the final exam. Consistent preparation throughout the 3-year training period is essential for clearing the exam.
