A brief view into IISER Pune

Likes

High productive discussions are encouraged. The classrooms are well maintained
The labs are well maintained and provides as much time as needed
The mess provides very good food and is quite subsidised

Everyday almost 3 to 4 oppertunities are provided. Our institution has quite large ties with national and international institutions, and companies. This is not restricted to any specific subject as such and is more encouraged.

IISER Pune: Worth the hype?

Likes

The infrastructure is great with state of the art labs and such. The classrooms are well furnished and comfortable.
The professors are very good in teaching and the research work and are always willing to help and support students.
The students are very helpful in the community and there are multiple hobby clubs.

Dislikes

There is no night canteen even though most clubs run late at night.
The quality of the mess food is bad and their hygiene is poor despite many complaints.
The admin department does not take students seriously on the issue of the attendance app

The college provides flexibility of choosing your own subject of interest or specialization.
It is a highly affordable college with fees much lower than other government colleges as well
There are no restrictions on in timings of hostel on campus.

Dislikes

The college does force you to study subjects like HSS, ECS where they teach sanskrit and earth sciences in first sem which might not be very useful in the future.

Internships Opportunities:

IISER PUNE is famous for its summer internship programme. They offer summer internships for various courses in IIT Madras, Qintern etc. Some intership programs are given even abroad in places like Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel and some institutes in Australia and other such contries as well. Students can choose subject of their own interest for these internships.

The college has a great reserch oriented environment and it is one of best reserch institute of country.you can find almost all type of labs to do reserch in natural sciences.
The campus life is good , not the best. The scocal interaction is good . You meet people from all over india. All festivals are celebrated in every enjoyable manner. There is very less discrimination in campus.
The faculty here are highly qualified and experienced, The infrastructure in lecture hall and in reserch lab are really good. The reserch opportunities are one of best in science in india.

Dislikes

The course curriculum is very rigorous. The faculty teaches in only English, so if you are not familiar with getting tought by teacher in only English, you can get difficulty in starting.
There is no seen for placement or internship in industry or in compines. As college is more oriented toward reserch students prefer to do reserch and further studies over industry placement.
The girl to boys ratio is not the best in college. There are no big fests happen in college.

Internships Opportunities:

The college is reserch oriented and promote natural sciences, so you will not find any industry related internship . The students do reserch here and students do internship here but reserch oriented, students do internship in the college itself or go to other University like Iisc bangalore or IITs for internship. Here proffesor will guide you and help you regarding internships.

College provides you with the best facilities and course structure for the real world applications and it's up to the person how he performs in exams and his cgpa accordingly he can apply inside and outside the campus for internship. Most of the internships are payed and some of them aren't.

Likes

good academic facilities and great research environment
location of campus in the main city itself
girls to boys ratio is almost 1: 2 without any female reservation which is quite great

Dislikes

high cost of living in pune makes it less budget frinedly

Placement Experience:

placements are not that bad because very less students opt for it . mostly people go for a phd. but companies such as CHEGG , SHELL , ZEUS NUMERIX visited the campus . The average salary was 8 LPA . My plan is to go for higher studies.

IISER Pune- The best social place for science

Likes

Classrooms, tutorial rooms, laboratories and library facilities are the best
Sports facilities like indoor stadium for basketball, badminton with multiple courts along with a gym. Also it has a laundry system which is free of cost.
The Canteen food is very affordable with multiple cuisine options. And it is open throughout the whole day. With multiple Coffee, grocery shops along with an outlet of CCD.

Dislikes

It has a clinic but it doesn’t provide consultations for severe complications and health issues. Also it is restricted to time so it closes everyday after 5 pm.
The gym is strictly time constrained and the trainer is not enough qualified to train the people. It should offer more open hours.
It has a night canteen which serves horrible beverages along with little or no option for snacks. And it is also limited as per availability.

We get a three month summer break which can be utilised by doing a summer project under the choice of your professor but only when the prof allows. Also you are allowed to avail intership across the country and world.

Everything is good in college only curriculum is not good. So students face problems. And the old curriculum is what is needed now. Everything else is good.
College campus is nice. And the courses are great too.
Professors are very good. Not all professors fail students

Dislikes

The food in the college mess is very bad.
There are many thieves among college students.
Students play fire in the hostel for no reason

Internships Opportunities:

All types of interships are conducted in our college. Intership in all types of courses is provided by our college itself. Because it does not sponsor with any company. Intership is available in all courses. I the chemistry lab in our college is very big and good.

Most liked thing that there is no ragging in college and all senior are just like big brother and sister, this thing i so loved. Also there is very much greenery in campus which look very nice mainly in rainy season.
All the professor are very brilliant and help student time to time for internship till last date and explain all the phenomenon and clear doubt by simply taking a appointment.
Campus is very nice and hostel are very well ventilated and about food i like it because there is some hotel like feeling that you pay at that time and eat. You have not to pay it along sem fee also eat what you want like veg , non veg etc.

Dislikes

The Thing i don't like is the distance of college from pune city is about 10 km which is makes us very deductive for going us to the main pune city. So we go only 2 to 3 time in a month to pune city.

Internships Opportunities:

Internship is totally depend on you. Mainly the chance of internship is high when you are in touch with the professor. By the help of them you may got intern in foreign like germany, usa, london etc. top developed countries. As they have their connection with them. Mainly iiser have good connection in foreign so their is high chances that you may got chance to abroad. Also the project are started from the 2nd year onwards as it totally depend on you whether you want to take it or not. But these are also help in your cgpa and more chance to intern in the field which you want to apply here. If you have done any projects so there is high chance of getting intern and after it getting a good funded phd after it.
