Institute of Law, Nirma University: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 15 Reviews

Admission to ILNU is based on CLAT entrance exam results, with the process starting in late May and classes commencing in mid-June. The faculty-student ratio is satisfactory, with experienced professors in subjects like economics and political science using interactive teaching methods. However, some new faculty members lack experience. The college is compared favorably to Symbiosis Law School and the NLUs. Fees are considered high, increasing annually without a parallel improvement in education quality.

The placement cell assists in securing internships and offers guidance, but many students find jobs independently. Eligible from the 9th semester, students have access to campus placements, with top firms like Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas participating. The average placement package ranges from Rs. 80,000 to 1,00,000 monthly, with the highest annual packages reaching 29 Lacs in 2020. Placement rates have fluctuated, with the highest at 86% in 2018 and the lowest at 30% in 2020.

Beyond placements, many pursue higher studies or find jobs in top law firms and corporates, earning an average of 5-6 Lakhs annually, with a maximum of 20 Lakhs. Scholarships are available based on merit and merit-cum-means, including a 100% waiver for top CLAT scorers and significant concessions for SC/ST and high-merit students. The annual tuition fee for integrated law programs ranges from Rs. 3,18,000 to Rs. 3,73,200, not including hostel fees, and can be paid in two installments via various methods.

Ques. Is CLAT the only entrance exam accepted for BA LLB (Hons.) admission at ILNU Nirma University?

Ans. Yes, ILNU accepts only CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) UG scores for admission to the BA LLB (Hons.) programme. ILNU does not conduct its own entrance test. Candidates must register for CLAT through the official CLAT portal (clat.ac.in) and separately apply to ILNU through the institute's admissions portal. AILET scores are not accepted at ILNU.

Ques. What is the total fee for the 5-year BA LLB (Hons.) programme at ILNU Nirma University?

Ans. The total tuition fee over 5 years is INR 18,75,000 (INR 3,75,000 per year). In the first year, additional one-time charges of approximately INR 43,700 are payable, making the first-year total INR 4,25,700 (including refundable security deposit of INR 7,000). From Year 2 onwards, the annual payable amount is approximately INR 3,82,000. Scholarships of up to INR 2 Lakhs per year are available for eligible students.

Ques. What is the CLAT cutoff for BA LLB (Hons.) admission at ILNU?

Ans. ILNU does not officially publish CLAT cutoff ranks. However, based on past trends, general category students with an All India Rank (AIR) in the range of approximately 3,000 to 8,000 in CLAT have secured admission to ILNU's BA LLB programme. The exact cutoff varies each year based on the number of applicants and seat availability. Candidates are advised to apply to ILNU regardless of their rank and check the official merit list.

Ques. Is hostel facility available for male students at ILNU Nirma University?

Ans. The on-campus hostel facility at ILNU is available for female students only. Male students are required to arrange their own accommodation in nearby paying guest (PG) facilities or private hostels in the Ahmedabad area. The university campus is located on SG Highway, Ahmedabad, and there are several PG options available in the vicinity.

Ques. What are the career prospects after completing BA LLB (Hons.) from ILNU Nirma University?

Ans. Graduates of ILNU's BA LLB (Hons.) programme pursue diverse careers including litigation (High Court and Supreme Court), corporate law (joining top law firms and in-house legal departments), judiciary (through state and central judicial services exams), legal academia, and public policy. ILNU has a strong alumni network and placement record, with graduates placed at leading law firms such as AZB and Partners, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Khaitan and Co., and Trilegal, as well as in corporate legal teams of major companies.

Ques. Can I switch from BA LLB to BBA LLB or BCom LLB after taking admission at ILNU?

Ans. Branch change between the three integrated law programmes (BA LLB, BBA LLB, BCom LLB) after admission is generally not permitted. Each programme has a separate seat matrix and admission process. Candidates should carefully choose their preferred programme at the time of applying to ILNU. The choice of programme does not significantly affect career prospects, as all three lead to the same Bar Council of India recognised law degree.

ILNU is indeed the best private institute of law in India and therefore the fees is handsome as well. It's 3,40,000 a year and not many scholarships too as this is a private institute. Also, not many reservation advantages in terms of admission as well so it is good and fees too therefore is totally worth it.
