The overall XAT 2026 cutoff was 92 percentile for engineering male students and 90 percentile for non-engineering male students. Women needed 87 and 84 percentile in the same two groups. XLRI also sets a floor for every section, so a high overall score on its own is not enough. The cutoff is set again each year, and 2026 was lower than 2025.

Should you pick PGDHRM at XLRI Jamshedpur?
This course suits students who want a career in human resources and can live on a residential campus in a small city.
Pick it if:
You want an HR career at the top of the market: HUL, ITC, Aditya Birla Group and Tata Steel hire from this batch every year.
You want an alumni base that leads HR in India: the course started in 1953 and its alumni hold HR chairs across the country.
You want a residential campus: every student gets a single room on campus and stays there for the full course.
You want the fee back fast: the average pay of INR 31.40 LPA is about the same as the full fee of INR 30.50 Lakhs.
Skip it if:
You are counting on your overall XAT percentile alone: XLRI also sets a floor for each section, and a low section score ends the shortlist.
You want a big city around your campus: Jamshedpur is a steel town, so guest lectures and weekend company visits are fewer than in a metro.
You are counting on a top offer: the median pay is INR 29 LPA while the highest offer was INR 59 LPA, so most students land near the median.
You cannot leave your job for two years: this course is full-time and residential, and XLRI has a separate online course for working people.
Counsellor's advice
If HR is the career you want and you can pay or fund INR 30.50 Lakhs, put this course first on your list. If you want a general management role, keep a flagship MBA above it and treat this as your HR backup.

In short
MDI Gurgaon costs INR 3.95 Lakhs less and pays close to the same average. If you want a Delhi NCR campus and a wider general management batch, put it beside this seat; if HR is the whole plan, XLRI Jamshedpur stays first.
In short
SCMHRD Pune charges INR 2.52 Lakhs less but pays INR 9.5 LPA less on average. It is a fair backup if XLRI Jamshedpur does not call you, not a seat to pick over this one.
In short
XIM University Bhubaneswar costs INR 8.30 Lakhs less and has a batch of 60. If money decides it, that is the cheaper HR seat; if pay decides it, XLRI Jamshedpur is worth the extra fee.
In short
IIM Ranchi is the cheapest seat here and carries an IIM tag. If your XAT score is short of the XLRI Jamshedpur cutoff, take it; if it is not, this page's seat pays back more.
Fees and pay can change. Check each college site before you decide.

What would you prefer from IIM-A, B, C, and XLRI Jamshedpur for management courses?
Bidita GhoseLives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
All four are the best, most renowned, highly established business schools in the country. Though to be a part of one of them will be dependent on various factors
Order of choice (highest to lowest)
Peer group: All of them give you a network of the sharpest and brightest minds, so all in the same boat.
Culture: IIM C, XLRI, IIM B & A tie at the same spot (personal opinion completely).
Location: Depends from person to person, so this is a ranking you'll have to do for yourself.
Specialization: Depends on what specialization you're looking for. IIM Ahmedabad gives you the best for Consulting, IIM Calcutta for finance.
Gut feeling: This is again, very personal, depending on what your dream college was when you started out.
Other criteria like packages, internships, fees, etc. won't be a differentiation in these because all of them would give you very similar job profiles, and CTC and have marginally different fees.
Ultimately, the institution that you choose should align with your career goals and aspirations. It's important to research and compare each institution carefully before making a decision.

Do you think the PGCHRM course conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur gives an edge in your career, I believe it's a big no?

PGCHRM is an abbreviation for Postgraduate Certificate in Human Resource Management. For an HR practitioner who has not received much official schooling in the HR area, this will provide some formal knowledge of HR.
PGCHRM from XLRI Jamshedpur may help you get promoted because some organisations require it. XLRI Jamshedpur is considered one of the best college for Human resources that can give you an edge but it may not bring a big change in your career because it is not as valued as a full-time MBA.

The interview process at XLRI covers a wide range of topics and is designed to give the interviewers a comprehensive understanding of the candidate. During the interview, you may be asked questions about yourself, your past education, any work experience you may have, your family, hobbies, current affairs, and your views on various global issues.
It is important to prepare for the classic interview questions, but it is equally important not to memorize them verbatim. Instead, be prepared for any variations of the questions that may be asked. Some commonly asked questions include:
Can you tell me something about yourself?
Why do you want to pursue an MBA, and why have you chosen XLRI? Why have you chosen a particular stream such as marketing or finance?
Can you tell me about a specific incident in your past and what you learned from it?
It is essential to be familiar with every point on your CV. It is perfectly acceptable to say "I don't know" to a technical question during an interview, but it is not ideal to not be able to answer a question about yourself or your CV.
During the interview, the panelists may ask you to speak about yourself and provide arguments for and against any current government scheme. They may also ask you to design an E-R diagram for an IT system for managing the admissions process of XLRI, and can also inquire about your hobbies and passion. It is crucial to be prepared for a wide range of questions and be able to express oneself effectively.
How do the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, and XIMB measure up to the established ones of XLRI, TISS, MDI and SCMHRD?
Apoorv AshutoshFormer PhD Candidate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2017–2020)
The simple answer to your question is no, the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, or XIMB are not at par with the established ones XLRI, TISS, MDI, and SCMHRD. The established programs especially that of XLRI are the epitome of HR programs. They cannot be compared to the new ones at any given level or parameter.
Faculty: The professors of XLRI are renowned throughout the industry for their competency. They specialize in almost every domain one can think of be it Law, Competency Modeling, Compensation, or Performance Management.
Peers: It’s the cream students who get the opportunity to get into a prestigious college like XLRI. You can see tough competition between the finest students at college. Every individual has a valuable opinion and stands to contradict others. Their thinking pattern is broad and given a case study, they look at all angles from accounting to finance to laws while proposing the solution. The situation at TISS is also quite similar.
Now one can say that the curriculum can be replicated and learned faculty can be sought to match the quality of the HR program at these institutes. But the truth is faculty and curriculum are the main but not the only factors that determine an institute's worth. Its own culture, ethics, and background have a lot to do with the programs it offers.
So one cannot match XLRIs programs no matter how much they try.
